Footwear Technical Sales Representative



Huntsman Polyurethanes, located in Auburn Hills, MI, seeks a highly motivated person with the necessary commercial and technical skills to fill a vacant Footwear Technical Sales Representative position. The primary job responsibilities of the incumbent include managing all commercial activities at current customers, cultivating relationships with prospective accounts, fulfilling technical service requests, carrying out internal trials on laboratory equipment and managing customer trials on production machinery.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree required; Chemistry, Chemical or Industrial Engineering preferred.
3+ years of Account Management or Sales experience; Thermoplastic or Polyurethane Industry highly desired.
Available to travel primarily domestic and some international (approximately 25%).
Comfortable with a "hands-on" on approach to carry out internal laboratory trials, manage production trials at customers' facilities and lead troubleshooting exercises.


Job Responsibilities
Become familiar with the fundamentals of Two-Component (PU) and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) Chemistry
Prepare and deliver presentations to customers.
Prepare and deliver presentations to internal commercial and technical groups.
Respond to customer inquiries by carrying out laboratory work such as the preparation of polyol blends, isocyanate blends, or performing small-scale chemical reactions on a bench.
Operate internal laboratory equipment for formulation development or customer prototyping requests.
Generate sample parts for submission to physical testing.
Examine and interpret experimental data, draw valid conclusions, and ensure all information captured is documented in a laboratory notebook and make available for internal use and Intellectual Property purposes.
Submit liquid and molded samples and test parts for analytical and physical analysis as specified in the specific customer request.
Travel to customers in the Americas region for commercial discussions, technical service visit, production trials and to uncover new opportunities.
Submit a call report for each customer visit.
Combine a fundamental understanding of Polyurethane chemistry and a high level of creativity to develop solutions for customer needs.
Requests input and feedback from supervisors and fellow associates when technical problems or commercial obstacles occur, or project timelines are threatened; ensures all project objectives are thoroughly understood.
Maintain an understanding of market conditions and changes in the Footwear industry.
Negotiate prices with prospective accounts and implement price increases, or concessions at current customers.
Establish safety stocks and manage inventory of assigned commercialized products.
Prioritize the sequence of production batches with Supply Chain and Manufacturing groups.
Manage Huntsman's relationship with current customers to maintain current supply position, uncover new opportunities for additional sales, and to monitor competitive activity.
Communicate all customer requests that require technical development work to the Footwear technical team.


Physical Requirements
Capable of lifting and carrying 45 pounds (20kg) over a short distance.
