Job Objective

Manage avocado and Calavo Select product sales to retail food stores, club stores, mass merchandisers, produce wholesalers, produce brokers and food service accounts. Achieve and maintain objectives of satisfied customers, fresh inventories and positive gross margin. Cultivate sales to new customers. Manage sales of other fresh products as directed by management.

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Regularly contact active and prospective customers to maintain and increase sales orders.
  • Negotiate prices and prepare sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Ensure daily inventories are sold through at a competitive price and customers are supplied on a priority basis.
  • Coordinate date of delivery with customer based on knowledge of Company’s production and delivery schedules.
  • Negotiate promotional support while operating within assigned budget.
  • Prepare reports of business transactions and keep accurate expense reports.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers throughout customer’s organization with primary focus on decision-making individuals.
  • Investigate and resolve customer problems with product quality, quantity, pricing and deliveries.
  • May be required to attend local and/or out of state trade shows and sales seminars.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned and required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent of education and experience.
  • Minimum of eight+ years experience in a sales position, either inside or outside sales preferably in the agriculture/produce industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to negotiate terms of sales orders.
  • Proficient PC skills in MS Office; previous experience using order entry systems highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel; approximately 10% annually.

Compensation

The base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $140,000.00 - $209,900.00.

The actual salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience.

Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or cash bonuses that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
