General Position Summary:
The University of Arizona Foundation seeks an enthusiastic professional to join the Foundation relations team as the Deputy Senior Director of Development. The Deputy Senior will work to secure philanthropic support at the principal ($1,000,000) and major-gift level ($50,000+) from private philanthropic foundations for the University of Arizona. The Deputy Senior Director will focus his/her efforts on large institutional solicitations aimed at supporting primarily research priorities of the University. The Deputy Senior Director will be a key member of the Foundation Relations development team reporting to the Associate Vice President. This position is a member of the Philanthropy Alumni & Engagement Program (PAE).

Duties & Responsibilities:
· Develop relationships and strategy for transformative gifts from private foundations
· Focus on cultivation and solicitation of private foundation donor prospects
· Develop and actively manage a portfolio of 50-70 assigned prospects.
· After an initial 3 month on-boarding period, execute an agreed upon metric of 100+ current or prospect donor personal meetings and presentation of 15+ proposals per year, and a fundraising metric of at least $4,000,000 annually.
· Develop and execute strategic, personalized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for assigned foundation donors and prospects through personal visits, letters, phone calls, email and other methods.
· Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations on the strategic planning of new projects and initiatives with specific fundraising goals for the University of Arizona
· Maintain up-to-date donor/prospect portfolio, including contact reports and opportunities in Lynx, the PAE database of record.
· Participate as the Foundation Relations representative for key projects and a strategic vertical.
· Creatively leverage outreach activities (e.g., tours, lectures, exhibits, etc.) to develop new foundation prospects.
· Embrace the PAE’s “One Team” culture and philosophy.
· Attend PAE, College-wide and team meetings as requested.
· Participates in training and professional development opportunities suggested by supervisor and PAE leadership.
· Travels regularly regionally and nationally to meet with donors and/or attend special events.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required skills and abilities:
· Demonstrated knowledge of development and fundraising principles and procedures, with emphasis on cultivating and closing large institutional gifts.
· Experience working with volunteers, faculty, staff and students.
· Excellent writing, speaking, interviewing and listening skills
· Excellent time management and organizational skills.
· Ability to establish and maintain powerful and productive relationships with donors as well as development colleagues and UA faculty and staff.
· Ability to make policy decisions when necessary.
· Strong initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
· Working knowledge of the ways donors can make charitable gifts, including cash, appreciated securities, real and personal property, and different planned giving methods.
· Ability to understand and work with budgetary procedures and policies.
· Ability to make introductory phone call to get appointment with donor prospects.
· Ability to make good decisions and exercise judgment and discretion.
· Ability to maintain donor confidentiality.
· Outstanding interpersonal relationship skills.
· Experience using Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Minimum qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university program.
· Minimum of 10 (eight) years of experience in a related occupation
· Possession of a valid driver’s license upon employment and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred qualifications:
· Demonstrated success in securing major gifts in a higher education setting.
· Proficiency in constituent databases
· Evidence of vision, leadership, and ability secure strategic partnerships and grants.
· Experience with, knowledge of, and enthusiasm for the UA and the UA Strategic Plan.
