Biotechnology uses cellular and biomolecular processes to develop medicines and other products designed to improve human life and the health of the planet. While biotechnology products are developed by biochemists, geneticists and other scientists, biotech sales representatives are the ones who actually market the products once they are approved.

A Pharmaceutical Sales Representative’s main responsibilities are serving clients by selling pharmaceutical products and meeting their needs. They travel frequently within their assigned territory and visit hospitals and doctor’s offices to give presentations and educate about the company’s pharmaceuticals.

As a biotechnology sales rep, you must explain to potential customers all of the facts specified in the FDA labeling of the drug. Like all pharma sales reps, biotechnology sales representatives must be very careful to accurately inform doctors and hospitals regarding the indications, efficacy and safety of a product. Failing to adhere to these requirements can result in hefty fines for the pharmaceutical company and damage the careerof the sales representative.

A good Biotech and Pharmaceutical Sales Representative should have excellent people skills as most of the time they will be interacting with potential customers. They should have strong product knowledge, prospecting, and closing skills, have the determination for sales, and be able to travel at a moment’s notice.

A Biotech and Pharmaceutical Sales Representative typically works on their own but interacts daily with prospective and current customers such as Physicians, Surgeons, and other medical specialists.

Pay: $67,718.00 - $129,910.00 per year
