Business Development Specialist - New Century FS - Central Iowa
New Century FS is headquartered in Grinnell, Iowa with locations in Central Iowa. New Century FS has about 210 employees (including seasonal workers) and approximately 4,500 customers. The cooperative does business in agronomy, energy, and precision farming. New Century FS is part of the GROWMARK System, an agricultural cooperative serving more than 100,000 customers across North America and Ontario, Canada.
PURPOSE
To build market position by locating and negotiating with targeted independent sellers in order to develop long-term business relationships. To make sales calls on key accounts in order to profitably grow market share through effective marketing of products, services, technology and Agri-Finance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
Utilizes market research resources to identify, target and locate potential independent sellers that can contribute to profitable market share growth.
Screens potential business deals by analyzing market potentials, evaluates options, make recommendations.
Develops negotiating strategies and positions by fully understanding risks and potentials; estimating business partners' needs and goals.
Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements; developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contract requirements with business operations.
Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, maintaining personal networks, participating in professional events.
Enhances company reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job.
Implements New Century FS marketing plans to generate profitable sales in the assigned territory.
Make sales calls on targeted customers and prospects, in coordination with locations to profitably grow market share.
Utilizes target marketing and professional sales techniques, assists in building customer programs, emphasizes features and benefits when appropriate and reports sales regularly.
Regulary communicates market intelligence with Agronomy Marketing Manager and progress with essential job functions.
Follows the New Century FS complaint policy for handling customer complaints. All settlements will be approved by designated personnel.
Takes care of receivable issues with accounts that are past due.
Will use established prices, discounts and billing terms established by New Century FS.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for complying with government regulatory requirements, safety standards and company policies and procedures.
Ensures the credit worthiness of customers, quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained. Promotes the use of credit programs as a sales tool and helps provide the required information to establish credit.
Assists with informational meetings.
Attends all required training.
Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Normally requires a 4-year degree in related field, or in business, and 6 or more years of sales and marketing experience to demonstrate marketing skills and sales leadership.
Demonstrated experience in marketing strategy, marketing program execution, price strategy, budgeting, and strategic planning.
Requires the ability to obtain and maintain required licenses and certifications.
Proven ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Proven professional communication, customer service, persuasion, and presentation skills.
Demonstrated organization and planning skills and the ability to performance expectations, budgets, etc.
Proven computer skills and the ability to use the computer to enhance business processes.
Demonstrated essential abilities including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making and skill development.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel independently and overnight when necessary.
Must be able to work extended hours beyond those considered normal.
