Full description of the position

Sales Engineer

As a Sales Engineer at Zetron, you will act as the primary source of technical expertise for developing ambiguous customer needs into specific, deliverable requirements and solutions to help qualify and quantify opportunities in an effort to meet the customers’ needs.

As a key member of the team, you must be able to:

  • Lead the process of preparing highly technical, complex systems sales quotations and technical responses, while maintaining a sales perspective, to Request for Quotations (RFQ’s), Requests for Information (RFI’s), and Requests for Proposal (RFP’s) and submit them in finalized format within the defined time frames.
  • Manage the design, preparations, setup, presentation, and demonstration of Zetron’s products at trade shows, conferences, and other marketing events.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and Marketing on all pre and post-tradeshow efforts.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements, promote the sale of company products, and provide the highest quality of sales support.
  • Responsible for responding to customers with technical, sophisticated, and complex issues and questions with product line inquiries from resellers, customers, and/or potential customers (phone and email) on a timely basis.
  • Identify and assess prospective customer requirements and develop solution configurations in response to requirements to compile a deal.
  • Confer with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and determine system requirements.
  • Create, prepare, and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.
  • Provide detailed product recommendations using technical knowledge and capabilities.
  • Arrange and manage demonstrations or trial installations of equipment.
  • Acts as a liaison between customers, resellers, sales teams, and internal departments.
  • Investigate 3rd party products to use with Zetron’s products to help create a larger system solution.
  • Provide input and recommend action regarding distribution, product improvement, and new product development.
  • Research and generate potential opportunities and quotes via Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Software.
  • Process owner for writing technical documentation for products and ensuring current documents are up-to-date.
  • Keep informed on industry news and trends, products, services, competitors, relevant information about legacy, existing, and emerging technologies, and the latest product-line developments.
  • Ability to travel overnight


What makes a successful Sales Engineer?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Sciences, or in related area required
  • Minimum of six (6) years of related experience responsible for providing technical expertise in a sales environment, including preparing technical and costing responses to RFQ’s, RFI’s and RFP’s.
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience and proficiency in IP Networking and either Land Mobile Radio or Telephony.
  • Expertise in preparing technical and costing responses to RFQ’s, RFI’s, and RFP’s, including but not limited to: Compliance documents, System Diagrams, System Descriptions, and Pricing documents.
  • Advanced working technical knowledge and understanding of two or more of the following areas: radio dispatch systems, telephony systems, and IP data networking.
  • Experience with using order systems and CRM applications.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and have an ongoing desire to stay current with the latest technologies.
  • An advanced degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future. The typical base salary hiring range for this position is USD $80,000 to $95,000 per year.
