BASIC FUNCTION:To generate sales throughout the store by providing sincere helpful service reinforced by a positive attitude and strong product knowledge skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Greet and assist customers. Provide direction to appropriate product within store and ensure customers find the specific product they are seeking.
• Ask open ended questions to customers to ensure we have all necessary information on their specific product needs (i.e. ‘What can I help you find’).
• Become familiar with products within assigned department along with other areas throughout store in order to ensure customers are given instruction in use of product as well as being able to direct them to the correct product.
• Ensure customer is aware of all products needed to complete their project and remind them of add-on items they may need.
• Be proficient in store procedures including loading guidelines, special order paper flow, invoicing of orders, Acenet and Ace CD checklist lookup systems, inventory/POS computer system (Eagle), and general merchandising standards. Utilize all inventory lookup systems as required to assist customers.
• Maintain assigned area(s) within store in accordance with merchandising and housekeeping standards. Ensure appropriate signage/literature is placed on all stock (bin tags, sale signage, end cap signage, sales literature, etc).
• Be familiar with and generate special orders and rain checks due to non-stock product requests and/or out-of-stock inventory skus. Complete Lost Sale Card for any customer request that we are unable to fulfill.
• Maintain awareness of all advertising and promotions. Understand and promote the Ace Rewards program, Instant Savings, and other promotions in order to generate new sign-ups and increase sales.
• Assist with stocking of merchandise throughout store.
• Advise manager of shorted or damaged merchandise, outs, incorrect inventory counts, etc.
• Be proficient in all store services (cutting glass, plexiglass, and keys, testing pool water, re-keying locks, repairing screens, measuring belts, etc.)
• Assist customers with loading when needed (including filling propane as required).
• Mix paint and assist with paint sales.
• Assist with appliance sales and explain benefits and features of products to customser.
• Answer incoming sales phone calls.
• Assist with price checks, answering general sales calls and radio calls for assistance.
• Obtain the necessary training to become proficient in all departments.
• Be alert for security issues including shoplifting. Take action in accordance with company policy to alert others to security issues.
• Be responsive to safety issues. Report concerns and/or suggestions to management and take immediate action as required.
• Assist in training new staff.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.

WORK SCHEDULE:As assigned by manager.

EDUCATION:High School Diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) preferred

EXPERIENCE:None required, some related retail sales experience preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

• Good verbal communication skills
• Outgoing personality and excellent customer service skills
• Basic math skills
• Working knowledge of hardware and/or building material products

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Standing for long periods of time
• Lifting up to 80 lbs.
