Job Posting Description

The Alliance and Business Development Manager is the key scientific and administrative contact for specific partnerships for the Technology Innovation and Development Office (TIDO) at Boston’s Children’s Hospital. The manager will:
  • Develops partnerships with other organizations to further the hospital’s strategic plan and goals.
  • Ensure effective implementation of alliances and achievement of partnership goals.
  • Represents the Hospital and TIDO in a number of external settings, including meeting with industry, and develops & maintains relationships with potential partners.
  • Work with scientific and legal staff to oversee and streamline contracting for scientific collaborations.

Business Development Responsibilities:
  • Assesses and inventories the internal research and clinical base with the Hospital’s strategic plan in mind to determine areas that could benefit most from potential partnerships with other organizations, particularly with companies.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the corporate atmosphere in and around areas of Hospital’s strategic focus.
  • Identifies potential partners for strategic research partnerships that add value to both organizations.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with potential partners of many different types in a wide variety of areas.
  • Expands network of hospital relationships to find valuable partners.
  • Shares network with licensing managers to enhance and increase licensing opportunities for hospital technologies.
  • In coordination with Senior Marketing Manager, develops materials and marketing packages to share the value of Hospital assets with a variety of audiences, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies and investment groups.
  • Alliance Management

Alliance Management Responsibilities:
  • With minimal oversight, builds and maintains relationships with external alliance partners and internal stakeholders through excellent, timely communication.
  • Tracks and manages alliance research deliverables and ensure optimal resourcing of joint projects; manages communication of research deliverable with alliance partners
  • Enables establishment and maintenance of external collaborations by consulting within TIDO, scientific and legal staff, and driving the contracting process of sponsored research and licensing agreements.
  • Operational management of alliances, including coordination of company kick-off meetings, outreach to the Institution's scientific community, scouting for research projects, call for proposals and technology due diligence, Joint Steering Committee meetings, proposals development, agreement development, and project management.
  • Independently identifies, escalates, and drives the resolution of issues
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong scientific background, ideally related to the biotherapeutics and/or drug development process.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills (oral and writing).
  • Strong computer skills (Office, project management tools, databases).
  • Ability to work with important stakeholders across the organization.
  • Strong creative and communication skills.
  • Ability to act independently while functioning with a complex matrix environment.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with contracting processes, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems.
Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional travel to collaborator site visits, scientific conferences
  • Occasional on-site / off-hours telecommunication

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field, i.e., biology or chemistry (Masters preferred)
  • 3 years’ experience with managing large and complex scientific projects
  • Some familiarity with business concepts either through MBA training or business courses preferred
