BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for greeting customers, making them feel comfortable and ensure that the experience they receive makes them want to return to Koopman Lumber and tell their friends about their experience. Tasks include repair and maintenance of various types of equipment, waiting on customers, answering telephone inquiries, and maintaining safe working conditions and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers when they enter the power / rental areas
  • Facilitate all aspects of rental transactions: quoting, reserving, renting, returning equipment
  • Train customers in usage of rental items as needed
  • Placing replenishment and parts orders and keeping inventory current
  • Repairing and building of hydraulic hoses
  • Sharpening, repairing, and building of chain saw chains, blowers etc
  • Sharpening of lawn mower blades
  • Responsible for delivering/picking up rental equipment, mowers, snow throwers, etc.
  • Minimal repair and maintenance of customer and store equipment as needed
  • Overall maintenance of work areas and display areas of the product lines we carry and repair
  • Interacts in a positive, pleasant and prompt manner with customers in person and on the telephone
  • Provides the highest level possible of service to all customers with the main objective of serving our retail customers
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the products sold and rented, product usage, product prices and new products on the market in the small engine fields
  • Maintains stock, cleans, dusts, displays and faces products for assigned areas
  • Attends and participates in all company-sponsored training programs as required
  • Promotes team concept

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to perform mechanical duties as necessary
  • Possess or be able to obtain a DOT medical card and drivers license
  • Ability to do math, read orders, follow instructions and operate the computer for rental, BisTrack and vendor site utilization
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills
  • Good telephone etiquette
  • Good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques
  • Be aware of and follow the We Believe statements and MSDT ECET objectives

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach overhead to grasp materials
  • Ability to sit, climb or balance, lift, twist, and bend, stoop or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis
  • Strength: regularly lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Working both indoors in controlled temperature, and outdoors in varying elements
