General Summary:

Customarily and regularly manage and direct the work of a team of sales consultants and sales consultants in training (collectively "Sales Associates").

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage Sales Associates by developing relevant skills to achieve sales goals using various methods and tools including: The Sales Performer, providing one-on-one training, conducting sales refresher training, conducting mentor debriefs, and overseeing new sales consultant training
  • Conduct interviews and participate in the selection process of Sales Associates.
  • Make hiring and firing suggestions, recommendations and decisions regarding Sales Associates.
  • Make suggestions, recommendations and decisions regarding the advancement, performance management, promotion or other change of status of Sales Associates.
  • Train and coach Sales Associates.
  • Conduct performance reviews by assessing Sales Associate productivity.
  • Schedule and apportion the work of Sales Associates.
  • Effectively address associate concerns, complaints and grievances.
  • Evaluate team performance and sales results and develop strategies and detailed action plans to improve Sales Associate effectiveness.
  • Respond and effectively resolve customer complaints.
  • Provide for the safety and security of associates and the store property.
  • Perform all of the duties above, and other matters of significance, by customarily and regularly exercising discretion and independent judgment.


Job Specifications:

Work requires ability to:
  • Manage a staff of full-time and part-time sales consultants and sales consultants in training.
  • Analyze and make effective decisions by comparing and evaluating possible courses of conduct after the various possibilities have been considered.
  • Multi-task in a high energy, fast-pace work environment.
  • Speak and listen effectively in dealing with associates and customers.
  • Use word processing, spreadsheet and other programs, displaying average PC skills, as necessary to gain knowledge of company performance.
  • Complete CarMax provided training as required.

Working Conditions:
  • Pleasant but noisy office environment.
  • Non manual work that may require walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Flexible work hours with shifts that may include nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Wears CarMax clothing (acquired through the company) at all times while working in the store.
