JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
An Application Engineer II uses knowledge of custom automation and precision machining alongside a team of sales professionals, managers, designers and builders to develop an accurate concept and budget that outlines key concept points for automation systems. These machines are uniquely designed assembly, inspection, and test systems for industries that demand precision assembly for their components. Some of the industries we serve include automotive, aerospace, defense, medical equipment, pharmaceutical, and industrial component manufacturers.
Job Duties
- An Application Engineer II will work with customers, sales, project management, and team partners, to develop an accurate concept, proposal, and budget for custom automation assembly systems
- Typical custom automation projects range in size from $100,000 to 2 million dollars
- Establish and communicate customers’ goals and objectives, including:
- Functional specification
- Cycle time
- Schedule
- Budget
- Resources
- Required process
- Part tolerances
- Review requests from the customer or salesperson:
- Facilitate concept and quote review meetings with support of the Level III Application Engineer and/management
- Develop preliminary projects schedules independently
- Prepare/develop a concept supported by a budget that meets the customers specifications
- Prepare Risk Assessments
- Produce CAD drawings, as required using Solidworks
- Produce concept simulations, as required using Visual Components software
- Prepare project proposals and presentations:
- Communicate proposal information to customers, managers, sales, project management, and internal project team members independently
- Maintain constant contact with the sales team
- Maintain AE related documentation in company record systems
- Provide design assistance to the project team throughout the design phase of the project, attend internal design & brainstorming review meetings
- Traveling independently will be required (national and international)
- 10-15% per year estimated travel

Required Education and Experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Associates' degree in engineering or management.
- 5-7 years’ experience in applications engineering related to custom automation.
- 3-5 years’ of working experience utilizing Solidworks 3D CAD software required.
- Training or coursework in Visual Components simulation software.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory duties
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
