Full description of the position

Description

The Environmental Practice at Burns & McDonnell is seeking a national Federal Market Sector Leader with demonstrated success developing innovative solutions for federal clients. The Market Sector Leader role is the visionary behind our Federal business line, which includes an existing HTRW and environmental planning consulting practice currently serving DOD and DOE clients. The Market Sector Leader is responsible for identifying industry trends, go-to-market strategies for new offerings, identifying new business opportunities, establishing, and meeting sales targets, continuously improving existing offerings, and leading the pursuit process for major projects. This position is a strategy and client-facing business development role and an indirect people leadership role.

The candidate will perform direct sales and business development activities; identify and develop our environmental strategy to the Federal market; contribute to the overall environmental business plan; and lead, motivate, coordinate, and support a team of national account managers in the Federal market space. Ideally, the candidate would be located in Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Norfolk, Kansas City, Richmond, Connecticut or Washington D.C. Other locations can be considered.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborate internally with other Burns & McDonnell groups, business units, and regional offices, with an external focus to maximize existing client opportunities and develop new clients.
  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing, and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with business operations.
  • Provide thought leadership through articles, blog posting, conference presentations, etc.
  • Develop annual strategic, financial, and marketing business line goals in conjunction with environmental team leadership.
  • Mentor and train account managers on various techniques and approaches to selling consulting services to clients.

Qualified candidates should have experience in the following areas:

    • Remediation
    • Environmental planning;
    • Compliance;
    • CERCLA/RCRP
    • IRP/BRAC
    • National Environmental Policy Act
    • DoD including the USACE, NAVFAC, and AFCEC
    • DOI (BLM, USBR, USFS, USDA)
    • GSA & DOE experience will be useful

Qualifications

  • Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree in business administration, natural sciences, geology, environmental sciences, engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 10 years business development experience with various agencies of the federal government required.
  • Previous experience in DoD consulting environment and project management preferred.
  • Desired candidates will have experience in government contracting and have the ability to identify federal opportunities and take them through the strategic planning and proposal stages.
  • Local and regional knowledge and relationships with key federal clients and small businesses is a MUST.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to attract and retain clients and build backlog, revenue, profit, direct labor and ROI over time.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are a must.

Compensation Range

$150,000-300,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado, New York and Connecticut Public Acts, An Act Concerning the Disclosure of Salary Range for Vacant Positions. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
