Analyst, Sales and Use Tax

JOB SUMMARY

This exciting opportunity is a part of our Sales and Use Tax function! This position encompasses assisting with and supporting state/local sales and use tax audits, processing and maintaining customer/vendor resale and exemption certificates, researching, and resolving customer and vendor tax issues, performing taxability research and other duties as assigned for multiple Textron legal entities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for various assignments which may involve sales and use tax compliance, audits, and projectsAssume responsibility as the point of contact for sales and use tax related questions related to tax credits and exemption documentation.
  • Provide W-9’s and exemption documentation to vendors.
  • Review and validate customer exemption certificates, communicate with customers to obtain valid exemption documentation, and setup customer exemption certificates in appropriate taxing software systems.
  • Perform research to validate taxability of high value items.
  • Work with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to support inquiries related to sales and use taxes.
  • Analyze purchase transactions using SAP, PO and vendor invoice documentation, including contacting the buyer and/or vendor as necessary and researching relevant laws for the correct application of tax.
  • Process tax credit requests for taxes billed in error to customers.
  • Understand and maintain tax systems, leverage automation, integration, and process streamlining.
  • Perform nexus research to ensure that business units are properly registered to collect/remit where legally required as needed.
  • Assist with monthly sales and use tax compliance as needed.
  • Assist with sales and use tax audits as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor Degree in Finance/Accounting.
  • 1 to 2 years sales and use tax compliance experience a plus.
  • 1 to 2 years General Ledger/Accounting/Finance experience a plus.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate tax analysis, issues, and resolution recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word – Visio a plus.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP and Lawson a plus).
  • Working knowledge of sales tax compliance software (Taxware and Vertex a plus).
  • Work and process data with high attention to detail while maintaining competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to, and respond to questions from, co-workers, management and customers.
  • Ability to collaborate with others as an active participant to solve issues and accomplish goals timely.
  • Protect and maintain the privacy of employee personnel records including, but not limited to, personal and compensation information about employees.
