Increase sales and profitability through implementation of sales, marketing, and consulting processes for products and services provided by Heartland Co-op. Meeting and communicating with growers to sell the full range of petroleum products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Calls on producers, explains programs and markets to promote purchases of petroleum products and services, including but not limited to, refined fuels, propane, lubricants, risk management tools, and tank monitoring systems.
- Maintain a high level of customer service and a friendly atmosphere.
- Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales and purchase contracts for orders obtained.
- Qualify customer creditworthiness and administer Heartland Co-op’s credit policy as prescribed by Heartland Co-op’s Credit Department.
- Promote and present customer meetings.
- Monitor activity on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT).
- Monitor area basis levels.
- Monitor competitiveness for refined fuels, propane, lubricants, and related services.
- Maintain Customer Relationship Management (CRM) within Heartland Co-op’s reporting program.
- Communicate regularly with operations and other sales staff.
- Assists in the development of and communication of petroleum policies and programs.
- Provide input in the development of short and long-range profit plans, specific objectives, and marketing goals.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of spreadsheets, accounting, and petroleum software.
Certificates and Licenses:
No certifications are needed. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
