Full description of the position

The successful candidate for this position will have office space in the Home Building Association of Greater Portland, 15555 Bangy Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97035.

Summary – The Sales Consultant drives customer and membership growth for the Building Industry Insurance Trust (BIIT). BIIT is the exclusive association health plan program of the Home Building Association of Greater Portland, delivering lower cost, large group benefits to HBA members.

Primary responsibilities include all activities related to building a sales opportunity pipeline and closing new sales to grow a book of business. Additionally, the Sales Consultant plays a lead client relationship management role, partnering with other CBS and EPK personnel to support the ongoing service needs and the renewal process for existing clients. The combination of renewing existing accounts plus selling new clients delivers the overall book of business growth accountability. A successful Sales Consultant will demonstrate a disciplined sales process: identifying and cultivating channels for new sales prospects, consistent market presence through HBA and other events, regular outreach to potential prospects, thorough follow-through and overcoming obstacles, plus the development of an ongoing personal connection to key decision makers at prospects or existing clients. Duties & Responsibilities

Develop Sales Strategy: channel and activity plan

o Build a sales plan with specific activities designed to achieve desired sales results

o Identify, develop and/or cultivate various channels for building prospect pipeline opportunities

Develops trusted relationships with key HBA staff

Execute Sales Plan: relationship & pipeline development

o Actively participate in relevant marketing and networking events

o Develop prospect relationships and cultivate referral opportunities

o Disciplined approach to build pipeline opportunities with new prospects, former prospects and former clients

o Understand the correlation between various sales activities and sales results; Consistent documentation of all sales-related activity to regularly examine the sales pipeline and flow through the funnel; ability to examine activity and make adjustments to influence different results.

o Development and delivery of materials to support proposal, sale and enrollment process, including enrollment meetings

o Work collaboratively with underwriting team to understand risks and performance of Trust pools

Achieve Sales Results

o Prioritize prospects based on opportunity potential and fit/alignment with CBS programs/products

o Advance highest priority prospects through the stages of a customer-focused sales process: relationship progression; understand client needs/priorities; deliver valued solutions; overcome obstacles; close sale

o Consistently meet or exceed new sales quotas

Retention of existing CBS clients

o Develop client relationships by earning trust and demonstrating value with new solutions and alternate perspectives to problems or obstacles

o Proactive relationship contact with key clients throughout the year and not only during renewal cycle

o Coordination with EPK Administrators and other Third Party Administrators or carriers as needed

o Develop company and market expertise: Consistent learning and sharing of information related to CBS/EPK policies and procedures, insurance market, competitors, emerging trends, etc.

o Build relationships with internal staff, external vendors & carriers

o Actively participate in development of a healthy and productive sales culture

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

o Demonstrated experience selling programs or services directly to employers. Experience in employee benefits programs preferred but not required.

o Experienced benefits producers will exhibit proficiency in various benefits strategies, employer contribution strategies, value differentiation between HSA and traditional medical insurance, and alternative financing, including level-funded and self-funded solutions.

o Ability to grow, manage and retain a book of business.

o Highly motivated and adaptable.

o Ability to think of creative solutions to problems/challenges.

o Ability to thrive in an environment of both independent work and collaborative work with others to achieve the common goals of the company.

o Ability to establish priorities and meet objectives with changing demands.

o Develop knowledge of market portfolio of carrier solutions and competing programs

o Knowledge and comfort using the internet, Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite of software.

o Knowledge of formatting and preparation of professional business communications.

Special Requirements

o Vary Schedule as needed to meet business needs.

o Transportation available to meet clients and prospects throughout the Oregon region.

o Insurance Producer License for Life & Health (Oregon) required. Must be completed within 60-day of hire.

Compensation Range: $100k-plus based on commission/growth of book of business.

Commission based on production: Competitive commission structure commensurate with book of business growth. Experienced sales producers earn commissions of upwards of 4-5x their base salary.
