Full description of the position

Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) is seeking a Sales and Operations Coordinator who will join a team of exceptional professionals within our newly created Lifelong Learning (LL) program. WSE serves both traditional-age residential students as well as working professionals-early-mid career technical professionals and executives. The WSE LL portfolio addresses upskilling and reskilling needs of working professionals through its offerings that include executive education programs, experiential and technical workshops, extended-day boot camps, and webinars. The Whiting School engages in multiple delivery modalities-face-to-face (at JHU locations as well as on-site), asynchronous and synchronous online, and hybrid approaches-for individual or cohort participation.

The Sales and Operations Coordinator must be highly self-driven, proactive, organized and demonstrate the ability to work independently, in coordination with WSE Marketing, with outside subcontractors, and with Lifelong Learning Program Managers to provide excellent customer service to prospective learners, enrolled learners, staff, and faculty. This position is responsible for managing current B2C sales channels and vendors, reaching out to potential learners, and working across internal and external teams to better engage our audiences. Working closely with marketing, technical, program management, and finance teams, the Sales and Operations Coordinator will be the primary coordinator and contact and public-facing resource for our B2C learners.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in business development and sales, ideally within higher education. The candidate should have demonstrated success in B2C sales and developing new business opportunities. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with senior leadership within the Whiting School of Engineering and across the university. The candidate must be a problem solver and have a commitment to equity, justice, and inclusion.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Identify B2C sales channels for Whiting's Lifelong Learning portfolio; implement a strategy for pursuing leads across these channels
Craft and oversee communications to prospective and enrolled learners; manage listservs/newsletters
Manage sales, including outreach, calls, and order completion
Work with Lifelong Learning Program Managers and Whiting's Marketing and Communications team to create and enhance digital assets (Lifelong Learning website, course brochures etc.); distribute sales materials
Create knowledge base articles and FAQs for individuals to improve the user experience and reduce friction on self-service enrollment and applications
Implement A/B marketing tests
Work with the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning to set sales targets, monitoring progress, and assessing performance; participate in revenue forecasts/reforecasts
Create and track sales targets by account type and monitor sales metrics and key performance indicators (e.g., work with leadership and technical teams to develop dashboards and reports, provide regular data-driven updates to leadership)
Convert sales leads to Lifelong Learning program enrollments
Analyze and report on sales performance (monthly and ad hoc); suggest and take action to improve sales performance and identify opportunities for growth
Manage pre-event/course onboarding and logistics, including communications and scheduling
Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning, Program Managers, and Whiting's Marketing and Communications team on the development of new courses, which could include market research, attending planning sessions, project reviews, course launch, and course redevelopment meetings to assist with determining price, and market trends
Represent WSE at academic conferences and industry events
Participate in ongoing professional development activities
Handle special projects as assigned

Specific Accountabilities:
Timely creation and maintenance of B2C sales channel master plan
Timely creation and maintenance of B2C communication plan and campaign
Timely creation and execution of A/B Marketing tests
Timely creation and analysis of sales performance reports
Achieve established Lead-to-Enrollment sales conversion targets

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree
5+ years in a sales role developing business opportunities and selling to consumers
Additional experience may be substituted for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*

  • JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
