EVENT SALES MANAGER
Full-time, Onsite
Hours: Mostly Monday-Friday, 9-5pm (flexible schedule), but must be available evenings and weekends as needed
Over the last decade, The Leonardo in downtown Salt Lake City has forged a new museum experience that fuses science, technology, and art with hands-on learning through exhibits, educational programs, and community outreach. About the role:
The Leonardo is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly organized Event Sales Manager. The Leonardo is a unique venue, located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. The Event Sales Manager will be the main point of contact for all sales leads, and will ensure a high percentage of those leads will be converted to contracts. In addition, this position will ensure the details are planned out in detail - including interfacing with any vendors - so that the event can be set up and executed flawlessly. The Events Sales Manager will interact with The Leonardo’s Operations Manager, the marketing team, facilities, as well as the Day-of-Event Coordinator and all other temporary events staff.
This role is a full-time role, and for the right candidate, offers a lot of ability for growth, as the museum builds up the events business after COVID, including a full hospitality and F&B team.
The ideal candidate is a team player, excellent project manager, loves handling client relationships and sales, a problem solver, and performs well under pressure of a highly dynamic event environment. They will have excellent communication and customer service skills and serve as the point person for clients (weddings, corporate events, and other private events). This position will ensure the clients have a top-notch experience with their event, ensuring the facility, set-up, food and beverage are all meeting and exceeding expectations.
The position will produce inspiring, memorable, and beautiful events at the museum while supporting the mission, vision, and purpose of The Leonardo.
Core Responsibilities:
- Event sales
- Event detailing/planning
- Client relations
Your Day-to-Day Includes:
- Respond to all event inquiries including Tripleseat
- Be active in community outreach for event sales as time permits
- Contact client to ensure all event details and specific needs are captured
- Proactively communicate with client leading up to the event
- Create a run of show and BEO to be shared with the internal Leonardo team/Event Coordinator
- Contact and coordinate details with all vendors and Event Planners
- Responsible for greeting client and introducing Event Coordinator
- Assist Operations Manager in staffing needs for events
- Conduct tours for prospective clients and vendors as needed
- Building strong relationships to maintain future business
- Acting as the client’s representative to ensure delightful customer experience
- Collecting and analyzing data concerning results of events hosted
- Maintaining a working knowledge of the complex needs of a wide variety of events
- Planning event coordination details and aspects, including seating, dining and guests
- Prepare detailed notes and checklists for coordination of events
- Create orders for DABC and Caterers for events as needed
- Communicate all events related to alcohol to the DABC
- Be responsible for inventory of all events items; including the liquor inventory
- Be trained on all basic building functions at The Leonardo
- Work on quotes for special requests
- Help establish and support Event Department SOPs and event-related content
- Ensure quality, clarity, consistency, and alignment to all events.
- Responsible and aware of Event Department Budget
- Oversee & lead any Event Coordinators, as assigned by your manager

Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of the events process and industry trends
- Loves & has experience with handling client relationships and sales
- Proven track record in customer service and in the hospitality industry
- Results-oriented professional with proven experience in event strategy and production
- Demonstrated experience in managing and executing events small and large
- Preferably knowledgeable in Tripleseat
- 3-5 years professional experience and proven work experience in a related role
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Strong understanding of AV and Media
- Ability to take direction and work collaboratively
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment, adhere to deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility with shifting demands and priorities
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at a time
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Be able to multitask and work under stress
- Skilled at professional communication and managing customer relations
