DEPARTMENT: Space Commerce Institute
REPORTS TO: Vice President- Space Commerce & Entrepreneurship

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The Space Commerce Business Development and Sales position is a vital role within Space Foundation. This individual supports the Vice President - Space Commerce & Entrepreneurship in strategic positioning and growth of all SCI activities including Space Foundation University. Space Commerce Institute provides accessible, actionable, and tangible a-la-carte programming that facilitates growth into and growth within the burgeoning space ecosystem. Its four distinct pillars support participants’ specialized needs throughout their various phases of growth. This includes advancing into the space sector, elevating skillsets through professional development and leadership training, and obtaining targeted consulting to bridge a knowledge gap. Space Commerce Institute is a division under the Center for Innovation and Education.
The Space Commerce Business Development and Sales candidate is entrepreneurial in nature, with impeccable written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and an ability to manage multiple priorities and leads. They are tenacious at follow-up and effective in collaborating with multiple departments within the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following briefly describes the potential scope of representative responsibilities for this job, but it is not intended to be a complete or all-inclusive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of this position:
  • Assists with the implementation and outreach of current and potential Space Commerce Institute partners and customers
  • Creates sales campaigns for prospective new customers, working closely with the Space Foundation communications and media team
  • Conducts research and generates new leads for Space Commerce Institute’s four program pillars
  • Calls on existing or prospective customers within the framework of Space Commerce Institute programs and offerings
  • Consistently documents calls and results through CRM and regularly reports to the VP- Space Commerce & Entrepreneurship results and pipeline updates
  • Tracks and documents lead and customer feedback about product lines, services, and offerings
  • Compiles and analyzes results including the growth of pipeline, closing rate, and attrition rate
  • Represents Space Foundation at events, conferences, and community functions to further enhance brand awareness and develop additional business opportunities
  • Effectively collaborates with multiple departments within the organization
  • Works with the VP- Space Commerce & Entrepreneurship to identify key opportunities and areas of potential business; develops plans to approach key decision makers within those opportunities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Individuals in this position will generally work indoors and will have a workspace designated solely for him/her. Necessary office furnishings, equipment, and supplies will be provided by the Foundation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to work outdoors and would be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee may periodically be required to work in an offsite environment or at special events, and from time to time may be asked to travel on Foundation business, at the Foundation’s expense. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

JOB STATUS:
  • FLSA Classification: This position is exempt according to guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is not eligible to receive overtime pay.
  • Full- or Part-Time: This position is full-time in nature. An individual in this position will regularly work a schedule consisting of 40 hours per week.
  • Work Location: This position’s primary work site can be remote. The nature and responsibilities of this position are such that it is eligible for alternative worksite arrangements.
  • Regular Schedule: Usual business days are Monday through Friday, holidays excepted, and usual business hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the time zone in which the position is located. The nature and responsibilities of this position are such that it is eligible for flexible work scheduling.
