Summary
The Certified Optician/Specialized Technician works with our Dry Eye Clinic and Spa as well as our Optical department to ensure a positive appointment experience for every patient. This person is responsible for performing pre-tests and specialty tests, patient education, explaining recommended treatment plans, helping patients pick out frames and recommending the appropriate lens choices. A strong background in customer service and sales is encouraged.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Optical sales and frame styling, Inventory Management; Patient care in the exam room including the Dry Eye Clinic and assisting in-office procedures and treatments.
Patient Care:
*Scribing and assisting the doctor during the exam.
*Educating patients at the conclusion of their exam regarding prescribed treatments.
*Assistance in sales of services and products prescribed to patients.
*Assisting patients in frame selection and choosing the best lens options for their glasses.
*Adjusting and repairing glasses and making fitting adjustments for patients.
*Assisting in dry eye procedures and treatments.
Administration and Communication:
*Attending to phone calls, emails, and text messages.
*Communicating with patients regarding their progress with their treatments.
*Communicating with patients regarding adaptation to their new eyewear or contact lenses.
*Ordering eyeglasses via computer software.
*Maintaining accurate records of orders placed, in progress, and dispensed.
*Reconciling financial statements with products dispensed.
*Management of frame board space and optical sales.
Qualifications/Requirements
*High school diploma or equivalent.
*Sales/Customer service experience; eyecare or optical experience preferred.
*Strong organizational and communication skills.
*Proficient in computers and relevant software applications; experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems a plus.
*Strong computation skills to price materials and invoices.
*Demonstrates willingness to work in a collaborative team environment.
*Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also accepting direction and feedback.
*Commitment to quality by paying attention to detail and checking work.
