Job Purpose
Conduct field audits of books, records and tax returns of Sales/Use Tax in South Carolina

Job Duties
  • Review and conduct sales and use tax audits on basic retail businesses, non-retail purchasers, other service providers, end users and consumers
  • Research and provide audit documentation to include taxpayer friendly language and all points of issue within the audit
  • Prepare and present audit findings clearly to the taxpayer, their representative and any interested SCDOR personnel
  • Accurately prepare documents for possible appeals and criminal investigation referrals
  • Provide taxpayer assistance to include answering taxpayer questions by phone, fax, mail, or face-to-face in the office and in the field by performing on-site visits to businesses assigned by the supervisor
  • Participate in training classes, educational seminars or other speaking engagements

Requires one of the following:
  • An associate's degree and experience in accounting, auditing, finance, or tax preparation/analysis.
  • A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for the work experience. Transcripts required.
Academic degrees must be from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Also requires a valid driver's license.
