DESCRIPTION
As the Business Development Associate, you will work with the regional practice leader, office executive, department manager, and project managers to tailor a business development strategy as well as implement capture strategies to achieve market growth objectives for the transportation, municipal/public works, and traffic team within the counties of Orange and Los Angeles. Additional support will be provided to the structures/bridge team as needed. You will manage implementation of the business development activities aimed at strategic, high-profile/targeted clients to gather necessary intelligence, foster relationships, as well as create winning proposals and interview approaches for significant project pursuits.
Market Analysis/Pursuit Tracking
- Research market trends, client programs, upcoming projects, and determine how to position the firm and local teams to capture more of the market.
- Assist in the identification of new clients/project opportunities and analyze the needs of current/repeat clients.
- Lead internal business development meetings with department managers, project managers, subject matter experts, market and practice leads, and office executives.
- Track and prioritize pursuit opportunities using sales tracking tool.
- Facilitate pursuit opportunity go/no-go decisions.
Capture Planning
- Lead internal and external pursuit strategy meetings as part of developing and executing Capture Plans with the objective of increasing the win probability of targeted pursuits.
- Support the development of gap analyses, competitor assessments, discriminators and key win themes, and overall win strategy/value proposition.
- Assist with external teaming arrangements and partnerships to include identifying, selecting, and recruiting consultant partners and subconsultants.
- Storyboard the strategy and messaging for targeted pursuits, including all elements to craft a winning proposal.
Proposal/Interview Development
- Guide the development of strategic, high-profile, and must-win proposals.
- Coordinate with the Proposal Development Team to ensure staff resources are assigned and available upon RFQ/RFP release to lead statement of qualifications/proposal production (i.e., firm profile, resume, representative projects, integration of project approach and scope of work), and graphic design support as needed.
- Transition capture plans into proposal submittals – ensure win themes, strategic messaging, and value propositions are woven into the proposal production process.
- Draft key proposal narratives as required to ensure strategic messaging and value propositions from the capture planning process are integrated.
- Provide review and quality control throughout the proposal production process leading up to and including submission.
Relationship Management in the Community
- Listen into client meetings (e.g., board of supervisors, city council, council of governments, pre-proposal conference meetings, etc.) to glean important project pursuit intelligence.
- Participate in select transportation-focused conferences, seminars, association meetings, etc. (i.e., Mobility 21, Focus on the Future).
- Support trade show sponsorships, exhibitions, promotions, advertising, packaging, shipping, and travel, as needed.
- Seek volunteer opportunities within industry organization committees or boards.
- Maintain relationships with subconsultants, teaming partners, and clients.
Other
- As needed, guide the submission of completed project award submissions for internal and external clients.
- Adhere to Michael Baker’s branding guidelines.
- Assist with the coordination of advertising schedules and placement.
- Assist with the creation of collateral materials
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 7 years of A/E/C industry experience.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively under stress and tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated collaborative team leadership and team building characteristics. A coach/player who can empower, collaborate, and delegate when and where necessary, while remaining personally accountable for the overall capture and proposal effort.
- Excellent marketing skills with ability to demonstrate marketing savvy and know how.
- Strategic thinker with high ethical and business standards.
- Excellent computer skills with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) is preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $107,000 - $161,000
