Full description of the position

Overview:
Porter Novelli is a strategic communications company built on Purpose to do business better. We have offices across the U.S., in London, Mexico City and Toronto. We help clients develop communications and programs that build both stakeholder and societal value. We know that having a clear purpose that extends beyond profit is essential to building brand equity, advocacy and loyalty. And we can prove that brands with recognized values and vision perform better, year over year. This is our value proposition and our heritage. It’s what sets Porter Novelli apart.

We are looking for a high performing candidate with approximately one to three years of experience working in sustainability, social impact, CSR and/or ESG programs. If you are passionate about fueling sustainable brands and are interested in the role business can play in driving greater social good, this position represents a great opportunity to work with blue chip clients, best in class practitioners, and build your career in sustainability program development, strategy and communications.

About the role:
Porter Novelli works for clients in the apparel, retail, technology, financial services, food and health care industries on a range of assignments including sustainability reporting, materiality assessments, sustainability and purpose strategy, social and environmental performance, and sustainability communications. The core focus of this position is working with a team to develop sustainability reports, sustainability strategy, operations and policies for leading organizations.

The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or person with 1-3 years of sustainability experience from either college or graduate course material or prior internship and work experience. Relevant experience includes contributing to the process of sustainability reporting and supporting the development and execution of corporate responsibility and/or environmental programs. Candidates should be strong researchers, have experience in project management, and have interest in a range of ESG topics – for example: regenerative agriculture, climate change, packaging, chemicals, responsible sourcing, supply chain, energy, water, recycling, circular economy, human rights, social impact, philanthropy, employee engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
What You Will Be Doing:
  • Participate in the development of sustainability reports including materiality assessments, SME interviews, stakeholder engagement, third-party collaboration, benchmarking, goal setting, data collection and verification, developing a GRI/SASB index , reviewing and editing report narrative, and developing report launch communications
  • GRI or SASB certification is a plus but not a requirement. Porter Novelli often pays for employees to earn these accreditations.
  • Work with a team on the development and execution of social impact programs, including competitive review to uncover “green” space opportunities, partnership identification, outreach, program development, employee activation, engagement and impact measurement.
  • Support project management of design teams for collateral, digital experience and content creation.
  • Conduct thorough research on sustainability issues and trends, including competitive benchmarking and landscape analysis
  • Assist with the development ofcase studies, thought leadership, and strategy recommendations across an array of sustainability and social impact topics.
  • Track industry and marketplace trends and be able to summarize verbally and in deliverables for client and teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to assist in the development and presentation of materials, analyses, research summaries, and general client correspondence.
  • Participate in office-wide initiatives, including trainings, new business pitches and brainstorming sessions.
  • Assist with mentoring and coaching other junior staff and interns.
The Experience That Will Contribute To Your Success:
  • You have an understanding of key environmental and social issues with the ability to remain up to date on new and emerging issues, trends, regulations, and commitments (i.e., product and packaging sustainability, supply chain, climate risk and human capital)
  • You have participated in the development and execution of sustainability, employee engagement or social impact strategy, programs, and campaigns (whether via college or graduate course material or internship and/or work experience)
  • You are culturally sensitive with a global mindset
  • You are resourceful and can efficiently organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Preferred familiarity working with creative teams to generate branding, themes, design work and activation ideas
  • You have strong research and analytical skills including the ability to gather and interpret information, then formulate recommendations; the ability to analyze data sets is desired
  • You can work independently or collaboratively and adapt well to change in a fast-paced environment – but are not shy about asking questions and seeking help when needed
  • You know getting the little things right is as important as the big ones
  • Writing comes as second nature to you and in all forms
  • Experience project managing, or contributing to sustainability reports or related report content (i.e. GHG emissions inventory, human rights, DEI.)
  • Knowledge of reporting frameworks, including GRI, SASB and/or TCFD; familiarity with key ESG ratings, rankings or third-party audits, such as DJSI, CDP, ISS, MSCI, Sustainalytics, EcoVadis, SEDEX, SupplyShift, HRC CEI, JUST Capital and/or THESIS; certification in GRI or SASB and experience with DJSI responses is a plus
  • Skilled in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Teams and other database/management tools is desired
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to work three days a week in a Porter Novelli office

The anticipated salary range for this position is $55,000 - $65,000. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography.
