Insurance Agent Job Description

Responsibilities:
- Sell various types of insurance policies to businesses and individuals on behalf of insurance companies
- Develop marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies who sell insurance
- Ensure that policy requirements are fulfilled, including any necessary medical examinations and the completion of appropriate forms
- Explain features, advantages, and disadvantages of various policies to promote the sale of insurance plans
- Customize insurance programs to suit individual customers, often covering a variety of risks
- Contact underwriter and submit forms to obtain binder coverage
- Calculate premiums and establish payment methods for sales
- Call on policyholders to deliver and explain policy, to analyze insurance program and suggest additions or changes, or to change beneficiaries
- Confer with clients to obtain and provide information when claims are made on a policy

Requirements:
- Proven experience as an insurance agent or relevant position
- Familiarity with all types of insurance plans (automobile, fire, life, property, medical etc)
- Basic understanding of HIPAA regulations
- Ability to work with computers and understand various software programs used in the industry
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to build long-lasting relationships with clients
- Experience in telemarketing is a plus
- Benefits administration experience is preferred
