GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW:
Across the country, governments, employers, and American families have struggled in the face of rising healthcare costs. Efforts historically have targeted narrow programs and patient populations, and while many have succeeded, healthcare costs continue to rise. It’s time to take a radically different approach. A new approach involves putting the patient at the center with the goals of improving value and providing better outcomes at lower cost for patients. The Population Health Management (PHM) department at Mass General Brigham is charged with the challenge to drive better value for patients across Mass General Brigham. To achieve its goals, PHM leverages financial and clinical data to examine opportunities, designs and delivers innovative care models using product development and design thinking disciplines, and leverages problem solving, teamwork, and leadership skills to drive ongoing improvement.
Reporting to the Vice President, Clinical Product Development, the Consultant for Population Health Management, is responsible for helping Population Health Management and the Mass General Brigham broader health system solve issues, create value, and improve business performance. This role will also contribute to the design and development of new clinical solutions to deliver value for the delivery system, healthcare purchases, and populations under management. The new clinical products will also be commercialized through the health plan, MGB Health Plan, and serve as a key vehicle for growing the health plan. The Product Director will work with a high level of independence and accountability in a matrixed team. They will be responsible for conducting market and competitive intelligence research, building financial models, forming business cases, informing strategy for value-based care, and designing and developing clinical solutions from ideation to bringing them to market.
The Product Implementation Director is involved in multiple projects that answer broad questions about our current Population Health initiatives and develop strategies and financial analysis to assess the feasibility of new opportunities. Strategy and new clinical products may be implemented throughout the MGB system or made available to other companies. The clinical products developed for MGB Health Plan will be a central part of the future revenue plan for them.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop Strategy for Value-Based Care
Provide direction to other employees who perform background research, current state assessment, analytics, and clinical development activities around new product solutions, business opportunities, and partnerships,
Define needs for and review market research and competitive intelligence to understand markets and opportunities; define scope of services and value proposition
Shape and manage PHM’s understanding of the healthcare market for strategic threats, insights and opportunities
Perform complex business analysis, including financial, operational, and human capital analysis, around new strategies, clinical businesses and opportunities, and partnerships; form the analysis into actionable recommendations and plans
Lead the development of business cases and financial plans, engaging and aligning business leaders throughout the process
Lead or help a new business owner to lead setting up, launching and managing a new line of business, including building governance, organizational design, program management ownership, and financial structure
Lead due diligence on potential partnerships
Lead projects (such as business line strategy, new operating model, new product), planning and decision making (such as investment trade-offs/prioritization, organizational design, customer targeting), working with leaders across the organization to advise on and help implement strategic plans and new business opportunities
Select, direct, and manage external consultants to pursue new strategies, opportunities and partnerships, which also includes developing statement of work
Frame and Develop Financial Analytics and Modeling
Develop value-based care analysis and assess impact to Mass General Brigham as a system
Develop key business questions to ensure data requested and analyses conducted answer the critical questions (such as impact on contract performance, quality and equity incentives, etc.)
Gain and maintain knowledge of internal and external data sources, including enterprise data warehouse and financial databases
Collaborate with stakeholders to develop interactive dashboards and scenario modeling using claims-based, clinical, and other types of data; document and communicate assumptions for models
Develop build vs. buy and partnership analyses, P&L modeling and return on investment calculations
Develop models that forecast performance on total medical expense trend and quality measures that are part of risk contracts
Develop frameworks and approach for performance management and define KPIs
Service Initiatives Management and Content Development
Use critical thinking skills and high emotional IQ to independently manage high-priority, complex, system-wide initiatives that support MGB strategic priorities on a system-level
Translate leadership vision into actionable initiatives with clear scope, goals and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders to set achievable timelines with appropriate interim milestones to mark progress
Take the product development approach to design the most appropriate process to effectively engage subject matter experts, leadership, and operations stakeholders in future state service design (define, design, implement, launch)
Develop and manage process for change management and stakeholder engagement
Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress; manage changes to project scope and schedule; identify, track, and develop mitigation plans for risks; reports and escalates as needed
Lead multiple projects simultaneously that each involve multiple team members representing several operational and/or clinical areas across MGB
Build out documentation of product development processes, templates, training materials, and SOPs, etc.
Foster Relationships with Customers and Stakeholders
Prepare concise, creative, professional summaries of analyses and plans for members of Senior Leadership and others, as appropriate
Effectively present findings to all levels of staff, targeting the presentation towards the knowledge level and needs of the audience
Communicate project plans, project objectives and milestones, implementation plans to all stakeholders and other relevant parties
Develop and foster effective relationships and collaborate with leaders and stakeholders across the system and with external partners and organizations
Become a key strategic partner
Coordinate with other leaders to understand market threats, insights and opportunities
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Split of office and remote working setting
Job responsibilities include heavy computer work and occasional work outside of regular business hours.

Master’s degree in business administration, public health, or related field
Minimum 7+ years of experience in consulting, strategic planning, product development, or related field
Business plan development and execution experience, including a strong understanding of operational and human capital considerations
Strong financial acumen
Strong project management and organizational skills
Advanced Microsoft Office Suite experience with strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred:
Financial modeling experience
Experience successfully leading product development and design projects
Health care experience
Comfort with Agile approach to project management or similar methodology preferred
Experience with collaboration tools like Mural, Miro, etc.
