Introduction

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) serves as one of the largest revenue sources for the State of Maryland, supporting important state programs and services including education, public health and safety, human resources and the environment. In addition to generating revenue from the sale of lottery products, the MLGCA is also responsible for the oversight of the state’s casino gaming program, providing direction and guidance to its casino partners on financial, security, regulatory and licensing procedures for the facilities. The Agency also regulates Sports Wagering, Daily Fantasy Sports and Electronic Bingo, as well as Instant Ticket Lottery Machines, which are located at almost 90 Veteran’s posts. Gaming in Maryland is a dynamic and growing business that operates around the clock, 365 days of the year.

Main Purpose of Job

The Director of Corporate Sales will direct and lead the statewide Corporate Account program consisting of more than 40 national, regional and local multi-store retail operations that generates over $700 million in annual sales. Lead the account prioritization, strategic planning, resource allocation, program development and implementation, and coordination of all corporate account activities between Sales management, Lottery field sales, Marketing, Lottery executive leadership, required vendors, and other Lottery departments as needed. Employee leadership, management, coaching, guidance and employee development for two (2) Corporate Account Managers, one (1) Business Development Manager. Assign and allocate accounts to Corporate Account Managers while managing assigned corporate accounts. Perform ongoing analysis of sales and operations to identify opportunities within existing accounts; develop plans, proposals, promotions, incentives and operational programs including sales and non-sales objectives; present to sales and lottery leadership and key accounts for approval; implement statewide programs and monitor performance. Responsible for attaining revenue, program and product goals for assigned accounts.

POSITION DUTIES

Direct and lead the Corporate Account Management Program
  • Assign/reassign accounts to Corporate Account Managers.
  • Oversee the development of annual plan for Corporate Accounts, ensuring rolling plans are updated quarterly.
  • Continually monitor and review Corporate Account Management Program, make recommendations for improvements, implement and manage changes.
  • Coordinate incentive and promotional activity among all 40+ corporate accounts to create efficiencies and ease of execution in the field.
  • Communicate effectively with Sales Management, Field Sales, Marketing and Corporate Accounts to ensure effective program awareness and execution.
  • Manage program implementation to ensure proper field execution, ensuring proper planning and lead time.
  • Manage all activities and performance of the two (2) Corporate Account Managers, and one (1) Business Development Manager. Ensure account profiles are maintained, annual business reviews are completed, collaboration with field sales occurs and account goals are met.
  • Supervise activities of vendor-supplied resource person. This individual may participate in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to retailer training and education; retailer recruitment; promotion and merchandising management; and, analysis and evaluation of sales initiatives.
  • Collaborate with creative services, product development, advertising, field sales, and sales management to align corporate account activities with Marketing, Sales and overall Lottery strategic plans and goals.
  • Research and monitor Lottery industry and retail trade market trends to improve Corporate Account Management Program activities and plans.
  • Communicate corporate sales trends with sales management during weekly and monthly meetings. Provide reports and presentations on an ongoing basis.
  • Meet quarterly and annual sales goals for corporate accounts.
  • Present to and consult with Director of Sales and Sales Management of corporate accounts and with lottery on new trends, services, programs, incentives, products, merchandising, operations, etc.


Manage Assigned Corporate Accounts

  • Establish and maintain relationships with assigned accounts.
  • Develop plans, proposals and account specific strategies to grow sales in those assigned accounts.
  • Conduct sales analysis to identify opportunities with accounts.
· Communicate with field sales to determine improvements and changes to be made within the accounts. · Evaluate program effectiveness, document and communicate results, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Attain revenue and program goals for assigned accounts.
  • Maintain POS agreements and account profiles.
  • Prioritize accounts on an ongoing basis and allocate resources Retailer Recruitment Program
  • Oversee the recruit new independent locations, chain accounts & special projects as assigned
  • Work closely with the Business Development Manager and SG Business Development Representative to meet and exceed recruitment goals
  • Design creative account specific solutions as needed.
  • Work with other Lotteries and industry vendors to identify corporate account expansion opportunities.
  • Analyze and establish sales estimates and Lottery ROI for new key account recruitment.

Special Projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing or a related field. MBA preferred.

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of consumer products relevant work experience, preferably in the field sales and sales management
  • 5+ years of account management experience
  • Proven record of success with entire sales process
  • Experience with building and maintaining internal/external relationships
  • Experience managing projects from inception to completion; ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years selling Lottery and/or consumer products to grocery, convenience/department store or mass merchandiser trade channels
  • Self-sufficient with Sales Force Automation (SFA) tools and standard PC software programs.
  • MBA
