The US Head of Sales and Distribution, MD is responsible for leading business performance, including, Private Banking and Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB). Drive high quality client growth through the entire client continuum from Premier to High Net Worth (excluding Ultra High Net worth- UHNW). The role is responsible for the execution of the US sales, and distribution strategy in alignment with the Americas region growth strategy. The team is comprised of approximately 300 talented financial professionals who manage client relationships for circa USD70B Wealth and PB assets under management (AUM).
Drive business performance through Client Lifecycle Management (CLCM) to include acquisition, coaching, business development and retention of client relationships. Accountable for overall sales culture for distribution channels, including wealth center, direct banking, and Private Bank (High Net Worth). This role operates in a highly competitive, complex, regulatory, and global environment.
Ensure the effective implementation of a wealth management planning-led strategy to drive and grow profitable client relationships. Accountable for the implementation of the Wealth & Personal Banking (WPB) plan, including overall structure, sales goals, profitability, performance and leads sales prospect management.
The role manages the US Regional Wealth and Private Bank (ex. UHNW), and Direct Sales.
Impact on the Business
- Responsible for the execution of the US Sales and Distribution Strategy across the US and to deliver against the agreed plan tailored to the globally mobile, mass affluent, and Private Bank individuals to drive revenue and improve profitability
- Ensure activity comply with pertinent regulations, including those related to financial reporting to protect company and customer interest.
- Build and supervise client facing team to give direction and guidance in achieving their respective targets and responsibilities
- Ensure the customer experience and sale opportunities are optimized across the customer segmentations
- Increase product holdings of our clients
- Monitor metrics and performance indicators to monitor sales levels and make suggestions for remedial action
- Responsible for delivery of the sales incentive framework
- Ensure achievement of established performance expectations while effectively managing cost
- Lead cross border connectivity/business development within Americas and Globally
Clients / Stakeholders
- Identify cross selling opportunities and increase number of successful outward referrals to other business areas of the Group to drive deeper customer engagement and satisfaction
- Maintain highest standard of excellence in client service across the team and with individual portfolio through a range of initiatives. Ensure team is collaborating with other functions, products, and services for the client.
- Ensure that the Business appropriately utilizes resources of all areas of the wealth business by recruiting & retaining the highest quality, customer centric sales force and related support personnel
- To maximize cross line of business collaboration with CMB (business owners) and GBM through Employee Banking Solutions (EBS) in target segments
- Be a champion for the HSBC brand and promote the Group's global brand
- Ensure robust sales process: teams are delivering holistic conversations with current and prospective clients around their financial needs and aspirations. Selling appropriate core financial service products and refer investment and insurance products to appropriate brokerage staff, to meet client needs while developing and expanding account relationships; potential Mortgage business to be referred to appropriate HSBC Mortgage staff. Comply with Company Non-Deposit Investment Product policies and procedures, including the requirements of the Interagency Statement on Retail Sales of Non-Deposit Investment Products.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Ensure team and individual adhere to selling process and sales quality requirements inclusive of FINRA licensing requirements
- Ensure activities comply with pertinent regulations, including those related to financial reporting to protect Company and customer interests
- Business analysis and sales performance
- Product evaluation and selection appropriate to local market as approved by ExCo (e.g., tax, compliance specifics)
- Customer Delivery and distribution
- Continually reassess the operational risk inherent to the business and team to minimize exposure to losses and fraud and maintain integrity
- Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.
Management of Risk
- Is aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations
- Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues
- Ensure fair treatment of our clients is at the heart of everything that we do, both personally, and as an organization through consistently displaying the behaviors required to support HSBC principles and values
Observation of Internal Controls
- Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- The incumbent will ensure 100% adherence to completion of HSBC mandatory training and any required compliance and risk-related training courses.
