PURPOSE:
The Director of Strategy will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of UNFI. Working closely with senior business leaders, this role will develop long term strategy and lead critical strategic initiatives that deliver incremental revenue and profit for the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Job Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Execution
- Partners with senior functional leaders to define their growth strategy that delivers against UNFI’s vision including where to play, how to win and the required capabilities to win in the marketplace.
- Designs, implements, and manages a process to track impact of growth strategy
- Partners with the Strategic Business Intelligence team to garner insights on the industry and the competitive marketplace to support strategic efforts.
- Leads critical strategic initiatives to execution and drives impact across the organization.
- Creates relationships with various stakeholders to further strategic growth strategy and to align stakeholders to priorities through influence with data and expertise
Leadership
- Provides leadership expertise in areas of strategy, project scoping, road mapping and communications
- Leads cross-functional teams to strategize, plan and execute a variety of strategic initiatives
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/ Certifications/or Equivalent combination of education training and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent work-related experience required
- MBA Preferred
Experience:
- 7-10+ years’ experience in corporate strategy role at a strategy or management consulting firm or extensive in-house experience setting and executing a strategic agenda
- 8+ years’ experience in managing strategic roadmaps
- 7-10 years’ experience leading projects and cross-functional teams
- Experience communicating complex strategies with a variety of stakeholders including executives
- Experience working with technology vendors and managed service providers

- Highly flexible and adaptable to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment
- Strong ability to navigate ambiguous situations and deliver high-quality results
- Highly motivated and self-driven, ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and influence at all management levels and can successfully manage in a cross-functional environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer focus and demonstrated ability to work in geographically dispersed teams
- Flexible and adaptable to learning and understanding new technologies
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:
- Some travel may be required (up to 25%)
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
