Full description of the position

  • Creates yearly category Own Brands business plan based on detailed analysis of previous results and market trends. Makes recommendations to Sales Managers/Assistant Sales Managers to achieve or exceed the projected sales, profit and penetration targets.
  • Collaborates with Sales Managers and Assistants on the merchandising plan.
  • Assists with development of new programs, and processes to achieve and maintain industry leadership within categories in the form of penetration, sales, and profits.
  • Work with eCommerce team to maximize our digital presence through our loyalty platform and Own Brands penetration in eCommerce sales
  • Monitors sales targets and makes recommendations on adjustments to programs as needed.
  • Monitors pricing strategy and goals by item by marketplace by price zone and makes recommendations, as necessary.
  • Reviews everyday pricing and adjusts based on pricing goals established by marketing and competitive check or cost changes under direction of Sales Manager or Assistant.
  • Assists in creation and implementation of the 52-week promotion calendar (including writing ads) by category to support merchandising strategies and initiatives and conducts post-promotional analysis and recommends appropriate action.
  • Reviews competitive activity and recommends strategy across categories/items. Evaluates past programming efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Analyzes competitive ad and promotional activity and reviews programming effectiveness vs. competition.
  • Assists with the development and delivery of communication to stores and management on category financials, weekly programming, and success stories.
  • Captures and analyzes company and market information, and develops recommendations for categories on competitive activity, P&L tracking, operational execution, and vendor issues.
  • Uses category scorecards to capture weekly, quarterly, and yearly sales, gross profit dollars and shares for each category/item(s).
  • Assists in the development and implementation of competitive consumer-based category business plans in collaboration with departments.
  • Meets with vendors as directed to analyze category performance, assortment, new items, competitive and consumer trends and identifies category development opportunities and cost improvement.
  • Assists in determining appropriate product assortment based on category strategies.
  • Meets with sourcing managers, buyers, and schematic personnel to review items accepted and items to be discontinued as directed by Sales Managers.
  • Assists in designing schematics and recommends adjacencies that support the role of the category.
  • Conducts regular market visits including company stores and competition as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
PEOPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work as a liaison between Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain, Vendors/Suppliers, Operations, and the National team.
