General Summary:
The AVP - Sales & Growth Analytics position is responsible for partnering closely with the Heads of Sales across our US businesses.Provide reporting and sales analytics to lead the sales organization.
Create advanced analytics and turn marketplace insights into financial/operational performance and opportunities from quote through sale.
Build model-driven sales plans and projections.
This position is responsible for partnering closely with Transformation leaders to develop and validate the sales and premium impacts of strategic initiatives in support of our growth aspirations. This includes model development and senior level reporting on strategic capability progress against sales and premium goals.
This role will have direct management responsibilities for a team of data and analytics professionals supporting various sales leadership in the U.S.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide thought leadership and guidance on investments in strategic initiatives and their ability to grow sales, validate sales results from these investments and collaborate with partners on the impact to financial plans.
- Participate in the strategic planning process; specifically, developing the sales/premium monitoring and analysis related to the effective execution of our strategic capability investments (Box 5 of the Choice Structuring Framework). Build a framework that connects Box 5, Enterprise Goals and Journey Metrics.
- Build strong relationships with varying levels of sales, journey, and finance leadership to understand the opportunities and identify returns required from our investment portfolio to realize growth goals.
- Influence leaders with data, analytics, and insights.
- As a key partner to the Sales and P&L leaders across the company, drive the development of multi-year sales goal targets enhancing modeling capabilities.
- Facilitate sales projections; review current projection process/model for opportunities to utilize analytics for improved accuracy.
- Define and drive a data and information eco-system modernization strategy to support updated sales reporting and analysis capabilities.
- Continuously research the competitive landscape regarding emerging market share growth trends and effectively turn marketplace insights into actionable recommendations to leadership to help them grow their business.
- Lead teams responsible for regular reporting and analysis of sales/premium results.
- Coach and develop team on skills needed to deliver value to the company through tools, data infrastructure, visualization/storytelling, insights/advanced analytics and reporting.
- Develop vision for team and ensure effectiveness in creating value for their partners and the company.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree or equivalent preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in developing financial models, data analytics, and reporting; or equivalent relevant work experience.
- In depth knowledge of Unum sales and sales processes and competitive market, preferred.
- Proven and demonstrated skills in the following areas: Analytic tools, Data tools, Model building; manipulating and drawing insights from data; and statistical modeling techniques.
- Synthesis of analysis and research into strategic insights and practical recommendations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proven ability to communicate complex data analysis into a story with visuals that resonates with non-financial/non-technical leaders (influencing varying levels of leadership).
- Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills; comfortable asking tough questions of senior leaders.
- Superior consulting and advisory skills, able to think conceptually, act tactically; handle ambiguity; solve complex problems and make thoughtful recommendations.
- Proven leader with ability to successfully coach and develop others.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$109,600.00-$197,700.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
