Zymeworks is proudly headquartered in our brand new, net-zero facility located in the vibrant Main St biotech hub of Vancouver, BC, with operations in Seattle, WA, San Francisco, CA and Dublin, Ireland. We offer a hybrid work environment with most team members working in-office three days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Contributes to the strategic planning, direction and support of business/strategic development initiatives.
- Sources, evaluates and co-leads/leads licensing opportunities including contract negotiations and diligence.
- Leads the coordination and timely execution of alliance activities.
- Contributes to the commercial assessment of assets an deal terms.
- Develops, manages and coordinates projects. In collaboration with senior staff prepares project budgets, reconciles invoices and ensures timely payments as project milestones are achieved.
- Maintains open and proactive lines of communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Creates reports, dossiers and data packages relating to business and/or operational activities.
- Represents the company at scientific, investor and partnering conferences.
- May manage and/or mentor other team members. Ensures team members understand departmental objectives, specifications, deliverables, timelines and tasks.
- Actively works to foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships amongst employees, management and external partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-graduate degree (business/relevant scientific discipline) and a minimum of 8 years’ related experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to lead through example and to establish an environment fostering effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent deliverables and work effectively in a challenging, milestone-driven environment.
- Ability to collaborate and partner with internal and external stakeholders to build relationships, influence effectively and execute on strategies and initiatives.
- Successful track record in business development in a supporting role: developing, negotiating and securing licensing partnership and acquisition deals from initial terms to deal closure.
- A strong understanding of pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, drug development process and trends and business strategy.
- Demonstrated understanding of the competitor landscape.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent deliverables and work effectively in a challenging, milestone-driven environment.
- Results-oriented with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively and professionally to internal and external audiences.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $146,000 - $224,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by a variety of factors and the salary offered may vary depending on the successful candidate’s location and qualifications (including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, education, training, skills, and experience).
