An Applications Engineer prepares detailed cost estimates of hours and materials for pricing automated machines to be built by ATC. Application Engineers write proposals for the customer describing the proposed parts or equipment. Must be able to review and comprehend written customer supplied drawings, tolerances, production requirements, and machine specifications. Application Engineers use SolidWorks to prepare concept drawings of the proposed machine with detail of tooling and part nesting. May be required to plan customer presentation using PowerPoint and 3D renderings to prepare visual presentation under the direction of the team leader and Sales. May be required to assist other design and build teams on special projects providing machine design assistance. Good time management skills and ability to be multi-tasking. Must be able to travel to customer sites in NA for project line ups and sales support.

Application Engineer Essential Job Functions

• Brainstorm assembly solutions with customer and sales team
• Must be able to present and prepare high quality written documents for sales and customers
• Creative and ability to conceive cost-effective assembly machines and test equipment
• Must be able to work and interact with team-based management
• Good computer skills and understanding of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SolidWorks
• Interface with customer through written and verbal communications
• Must be capable and understand Mathematics and tolerancing on prints
• Understand basic engineering principles and practices regarding machine building
• Utilizes knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical mechanisms
• Must have a general understanding of basic electrical and pneumatic controls platforms
• Understanding of general machining practices (lathe, Mill Boring, Welding, etc.)
• May require: Defining a process and product flow based part drawings and required operations
• May: Require overnight travel, driving, and/or flying to potential customer facility in NA
• May: Require attending training on new technologies related to machine building
• May: Require overtime and working on weekends occasionally based on due dates
• Requires customer presentation in front of large groups of people

Job Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree
• 5-10 years experience with automation and custom machine building

Interpersonal Skills

• Ability to write in a clear and concise manner
• Ability to speak effectively, present information/respond to questions in a clear and concise manner (verbal or written)
• Keep to a defined project timeline for customer due dates and sales requirements
