Summary
ASM Global managed Greater Columbus Convention Center, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Sales Manager. The Sales Manager is responsible for maximizing rental revenues and occupancy of the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The position will be responsible for sales and contracting of events in the sports and other market segments as assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Generate Convention Center facility leads and bookings for the sports and other market segments as assigned through proactive sales calls, presentations, prospecting, and site tours that lead to securing business.
  • Attend trade shows, sales missions, networking meetings and local meetings to solicit convention business and produce detailed wrap reports at the conclusion of each travel mission, meetings/networking or sales trip.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the member facilities, attractions and services available in the area to customer and act as a liaison between those entities and the customer while maintain an accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the inventory/capabilities of the Greater Columbus area and effectively uses this knowledge as a sales tool.
  • Handle sales and contracting for event business, both from internal leads and working with Experience Columbus and the Greater Columbus Sports Commission to book business.
  • Conduct contract procedures, negotiations, revisions and amendments compliant with ASM Global policies and procedures.
  • Provide on-going support and service to existing clients.
  • Participates in industry related events as deemed necessary for professional development.
  • Attend pre-convention meetings with customers and appropriate representatives from local organizations involved in servicing the group.
  • Prepare for and complete site tours for all incoming clients.
  • Entertain clients as appropriate during hospitality suite events, receptions, site visits and familiarization tours.
  • Utilization of technology to support the sales effort to maintain accurate and detailed records of prospects, leads, new business, sales calls, existing client interaction, and group servicing activity.
  • Working knowledge of Ungerboeck database for account management process and assign document process. Must maintain all assigned accounts in Ungerboeck.
  • Engage social media opportunities when available to share the value of booking with the center.
  • Must have the ability to interact with guests in a friendly, courteous and polite manner. This will include initiating contact with guests within 10 feet – i.e., smiling, saying “Good Day” or offering assistance when needed.
  • Must feel comfortable when around large groups or speaking to a guest, as needed.
  • Understands the importance of providing customer service and in understanding of “The Magic is in the Details.”
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a bachelor’s in business or the equivalent of (3-5) years’ work experience in Sales or related field
  • A minimum of (3-5) five years’ work experience in the hospitality industry and knowledge of convention center operations is preferred.
  • Preferred CMP certification.
  • Previous experience with contract development and/or negotiation preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated presentation skills, both verbal and written communication skills, and possess the ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, maintain an effective working relationship with clients, customers, coworkers, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on client and office demands.
  • Must be goal oriented and possess strong initiative and negotiation skills with the ability to recognize competitive opportunities that result in new business.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computer systems and related software applications, specifically Microsoft Office and Ungerboeck (where applicable)
  • Good organizational and strong management skills are essential.
  • Must have familiarity with the use of a sales database and the ability to produce reports as requested.
  • Flexibility and the ability to prioritize responsibilities in an ever-changing work environment are critical as this job may require travel, working weekends and evenings.
This position requires the ability to interact with all types of people. Must be able to get along with co-workers, customers, vendors, and visitors to the facility. This position requires the ability to respond politely to all individuals and work well as a team player.
Working Conditions:
Work hours may be irregular (including evenings and weekends) to ensure proper coordination and success of the event and will include some travel on company business.
