WFAA, TEGNA's acclaimed ABC affiliate in Dallas, is seeking an experienced and motivated Digital Executive Producer to help lead the day-to-day direction and operation of editorial content across its digital, mobile, app, OTT and social media platforms.
The ideal candidate is a true-blue journalist at heart, a skilled communicator, a trustworthy team player and a creative problem-solver with an eye for detail and an insatiable hunger for great content. They’re an aggressive news gatherer, an agile thinker, an exemplary editor with a skill for massaging copy with the audience top of mind and a fiend for data.
The ideal candidate will be alert to the bleeding edge of industry trends, and have varied set of skills and interests – including the abilities to edit video, to create graphics and to track down information through interviews, public records searches and social media postings.
This position will help guide editorial decision-making across all platforms, manage strategy and partner with journalists across the newsroom to produce the best possible product. It will help steer, encourage and challenge a high-performing, results-driven, tightknit and proud team of content producers who work hard to create content and optimize the news consumer’s experience across all screens while also stretching their creativity at every turn.
As a newsroom leader, the Digital Executive Producer will have a voice in editorial and leadership meetings alike.
This role reports to the Director of Digital Content.
Responsibilities:
- Work jointly with the digital team and overall newsroom to coordinate daily digital news efforts and oversee digital efforts – including story selecting, reporting, writing, editing, distributing and live-streaming
- Lead the editorial process for the digital team through prioritizing tasks, making story assignments, copy editing and training staff
- Collaborate across workgroups, within the newsroom, to shape daily content, craft original digital content and work special projects focused on rich, interactive digital experiences
- Help lead newsroom editorial meetings to make decisions based on social listening, digital data and live metrics
- Urgently and aggressively cover breaking news as it happens for digital/social platforms through articles, videos, breaking news alerts, livestreams and social media posts
- Be an excellent multitasker and comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Champion original, digital-first content production for all WFAA platforms
- Lead team members on where and how to find story ideas and information, including how to use metrics and social listening to be audience-focused with coverage
- Train the digital team and extended news department on best digital practices – including SEO and headline writing – to create engaging content that is specific to platforms
- Performs day to day duties, as well as supervise and lead others on the nightside shift in content strategy and execution

Job Requirements:
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years producing digital and social content in a newsroom
- 3 years of experience in a leadership position
- Skilled copy editor
- Strong understanding of copyright law, music rights and basic journalism legal principles
- Well versed in online metrics such as Google Analytics, CrowdTangle, Taboola Newsroom, Facebook Insights, YouTube Analytics, etc.
- Working knowledge of Content Management Systems, basic HTML and live-stream technology
- Strong understanding of all social media platforms and how they contribute to overall success
- A deep grasp of best search engine optimization practices
- Familiarity with latest OTT trends and best practices
- Keen interest in emerging digital trends and evolving consumption habits
- BS/BA in journalism, communications, broadcast, digital media or a related field
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
- Applicants must take and pass a writing/copy editing test.
- This is a salaried, leadership role.
