Job Description Customer Service Representative/Sales Support Specialist

SIGN ON BONUS!

Position Summary

In the outset of joining Harvard, our new team member will train and collaborate with each department. As a result, you will better understand the intricacies of our organization, and how that makes us unique and differentiates us in the marketplace, subsequently making you more effective and giving you a better chance to succeed!

You will be counted on to have the ability to think out of the box and problem solve in a fast-paced environment. To help streamline the process, you will be empowered to be a decision maker and need to be able to critically think of solutions that mutually benefit both the customer and the company. Most importantly, you will be tasked to accomplish all facets of supporting our customers from order entry to order fulfillment and every detail in between.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with outside sales, internal experts, processing coordinator, and other team members to foster strong customer relationships that result in reoccurring business.
  • Understand products based on technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations, and customers’ needs.
  • Enter purchase orders into the system, including confirming specifications, setting up work orders, validating pricing, confirming allocations of material and checking accuracy of details.
  • Research and answer customer questions related to products, prices, availability, order status, credit terms, or other bid specifications.
  • Ensure accuracy of electronic records of all customer and product information.
  • Think critically to actively problem solve and recommend courses of action that positively impact the customer and the organization; find win/win solutions to challenges that are both cost effective and logical.
  • Assist with basic needs on freight and logistics, for example contact and coordinate carriers to move material, coordinate delivery information with customers, etc.
  • Enter and maintain data in the management information system (PS Data).
  • Manage information related to accounts receivables, including requesting/updating insurance coverage, handling invoicing discrepancies, tracking data accuracy of customer information for billing purposes, and collecting outstanding balances.
  • Contribute to good working relationships with our existing customers as well as office personnel.
  • Learn and consider the steel business in its entirety. From how steel is made, to how we are supported by our supply chain and ultimately how our processing centers deliver to our customers.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High school education (required); BA/BS degree strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A minimum of one year of experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Well-developed attention to detail and very strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload, use sound judgment to execute tasks, and rearrange tasks based on needs of the business
  • Motivation to work independently and continuously learn about the steel industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and recommend solutions that result in a win/win outcome.
  • Experience in the steel industry (strongly preferred), which can include inside sales experience, logistics experience, plant experience, or other prior work in the industry.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point. Knowledge of PS Data preferred.
