What You’ll Do/ A Day in The Life Typically Includes

Baker & Taylor, the country’s largest supplier of content, software, and services to public and academic libraries in the U.S is seeking an experienced children’s book publishing professional to join its new trade book publishing imprint for young people, Paw Prints Publishing. Paw Prints Publishing aims to build empathy, empowerment, and engagement through quality and edutaining books for young people that feature diverse voices and pillars of social emotional development.

Essential Duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to those outlined below:

  • Marketing/Promotions (est. 50%, 20 hrs/wk)
  • Manage the application process to institutional and consumer book awards for all PPP titles
  • Support Sales Team with B2B (account) and B2C outreach through email communications and partnerships (including monthly PPP Marketing & PR round-up newsletter)
    • Liaise with PPP authors and illustrators, as well as educators and designers to ideate and create product marketing (i.e. posters, bookmarks, postcards, activity sheets, discussion guides and/or educator guides, corrugates and displays, conference signage, sell sheets, etc.)
    • Support Digital Marketing Team with social media content creation and management (IG, TikTok, etc.)
  • Support Digital Marketing Team with [please apply online] maintenance
  • Organize and execute monthly review copy mailings (liase with Publicity Tteam) to key accounts, media, and influencers
  • Write seaonal (2x a year) tip sheet info for all PPP books in coordination with Brand Manager
  • Manage preparation for conventions/ trade shows and attend on behalf of Paw Prints (particularly ALA Annual, TLA, and NCTE)
  • Sales (est. 40%, 16 hrs/wk)
  • Special sales selling responsibilities (nonprofits & organizations, giveaways, subscriptions)
  • Select list of independent retail selling responsibilities
  • Coordinate materials and liase with k-12 sales reps
  • Coordinate with trade sales reps on select guerilla-style sales campaigns.
  • Administrative (est. 10%, 4 hrs/wk)
  • Participate in various internal meetings with production, marketing, and sales colleagues.
  • Spreadsheet/Systems/Virtual filing maintenance
  • Draft memos and correspondence as needed for all assignments.

  • Ability to travel a few times a year for various conference participation
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of preparing for and participating in trade shows and events
  • Packing, lifting, and unpacking boxes up to 35 lbs
  • Standing and moving around on trade show floors/company booth

Required Skills & Experience

  • Children/teen publishing experience (professional and/or internship) (1-5 years)
  • Working knowledge of and passion for children/teen literature and youth literacy
  • Digital publishing industry knowledge a plus
  • Marketing and/or Sales experience (1-5 years)
  • Customer service experience a plus
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent group communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (especially excel and power point) and an ability to gain familiarity and operational expertise of Baker & Taylor’s collection of material database/ordering platforms and products/services (incl. TitleSource 360, Axis 360, Collection HQ, etc.)
  • Digital marketing experience (including social media marketing) valued
  • Superior time management skills
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask
  • Self-motivated with experience or ability to work remotely
