The Office of Assessment and Research is seeking a Project Development Manager to lead divisional collaboration across the university for robust assessment initiatives related to student affairs.
Housed within Student Success and Retention Innovation, Assessment & Research serves as a centralized resource hub to coordinate and support assessment efforts that lead to continuous improvement of undergraduate student transitions, experiences, and success at the University of Arizona.
With mastery of student affairs assessment methods and practices, the Manager will contribute significantly to assessment and data analysis project development. This includes planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting on timely and varied topics related to undergraduate student success. The Manager will lead scheduling, coordination, communication, curriculum development, and evaluation of signature professional development opportunities for research analysts and co-curricular assessment professionals across the university. The Manager will facilitate communication and collaboration across functional areas to drive data-driven decision-making and generate a culture of equity-minded assessment aligned with the strategic goals of the University and the needs of each department. The person hired in this role will enhance data visualization, reporting, and communication strategies for the unit.

The Manager will report to the Director of Assessment & Research. This position requires some in-person duties at the UA’s main campus in Tucson and is not eligible for fully remote or out-of-state work. Flexible/hybrid work arrangements within Tucson are available.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Research and Assessment (30%)
- Execute institutional and/or unit-level research and assessment initiatives in collaboration with key partners.
- Analyze available data and design strategies to collect additional quantitative and qualitative data, as needed.
- Develop valid and reliable instruments to assess programs, services, and/or interventions.
- Analyze, prepare, and disseminate data-informed reports that facilitate the use of findings.
- Collaborate with key stakeholder groups throughout the assessment cycle including presenting results and recommendations for policy and practice.
Education and Training Initiatives (30%)
- Present, publish, and consult on research and assessment.
- Develop and deliver training and education opportunities to build assessment capacity, including the Assessment Institute and Assessment in the AM training series.
- Lead development of practitioner toolkit guides, presentations, publications, and briefs informed by best practices in higher education assessment.
- Present, publish, and consult on assessment activities, including for internal and external audiences.
- Pursue internal and external opportunities including conferences, publications, and external collaborations to share knowledge, improve practice, and identify growth and funding development opportunities.
Communication and Data Visualization (30%)
- Manage A&R websites and deliverables to enhance impact and utility.
- Polish products from data analytics in various formats for a variety of stakeholder groups (e.g., PowerPoint, data visualization, infographic, 1-pager, white paper, memo, literature review).
- Explore new opportunities for data-informed storytelling (e.g., podcasts, dashboards, story mapping).
Consultation and Coordination (5%)
- Serve on workgroups and interdepartmental committees across the University to provide thought leadership on assessment strategies and data infrastructure.
Other Duties (5%)
- Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent analytical, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including data visualization, polished briefs/PowerPoints, and website development.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively.
- Skill in preparing and presenting reports or other briefing materials to high-level decision-makers in a clear, concise, and compelling fashion.
- Ability to conduct applied research or assessment using statistics and qualitative methods within the social sciences including multivariate analysis, survey design, and focus groups.
- Evidence of equity-minded assessment expertise and commitments.
- Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant work experience conducting applied research, assessment, or program evaluation.
- Experience developing and delivering presentations to diverse audiences.
- Experience with quantitative and qualitative methods including survey design, development, descriptive, comparative, and predictive statistics, and focus groups.
- Experience with data visualization, report development, and branding.
- Experience building strong professional relationships.
- Masters, Ph.D. or another doctoral degree in a social science area with a focus on student affairs or higher education.
- Experience in the assessment of academic programs or institutional research.
- Experience with FERPA student privacy policies, higher education data systems, and key concepts in higher education research.
- Experience planning, coordinating, facilitating, and evaluating professional development or training opportunities.
