Position Description

Position Title: Diverse Business Development Manager

Department: Business and Community Development

Reports to: Senior Director of Diverse Business Development

Position Summary

The Diverse Business Development Manager is responsible for assisting the Diverse Business Development Director (aka Director) in developing and implementing customized solutions for all profile businesses, business consortia in target business communities, regions and distributed sub-sectors that cross city, county, and regional boundaries.

Responsibilities

The Diverse Business Development Manager will spend the majority of their time in these roles/activities:

  • Assist Director with engagement of diverse chambers and organizations, WEDC’s key strategic partners and pass throughs, as well as the Ethnic & Diverse Business Coalition (EDBC).
  • Assist Director with advisory services, direct and indirect assistance, major initiatives, investments and technical support to Diverse Business Community (DBC) in Wisconsin.
  • Assist Director with engagement of Wisconsin Procurement Institute, WEDC’s Key Strategic Partner.
  • Identify a range of public and private resources to deliver diverse business development solutions to the DBC Community.
  • Assist Director with the facilitation of coalition building and collaboration between minority business organizations in the state to achieve resource sharing, capability enhancement and strategic alignment.
  • Review quarterly performance reports submitted to the Director for additional oversight of Revolving Loan Fund contracting, fund construction, loan and credit management and administration through the committees of the Minority Chambers.
  • Identify areas of improvement to build, monitor and manage the Diverse Business Investment Portfolio for WEDC to ensure investment standards are observed and enforced, asset performance for individual DBC and RLF investments.
  • Identify necessary risk management tactics and techniques to assure WEDC asset protection and WEDC adherence to Program Guidelines, contract provisions, etc.
  • Work with target clients and key partners on problem solving and solution development teams.
  • Maintain current awareness of demographic, social, economic trends in the minority business community of Wisconsin.
  • Assist Director in the developing and delivering of funding and assistance proposals, Memos, Staff Reviews.
  • Assure accuracy and currency of Share Point and Sales Force CRM records for all activities in service to assignments and beyond.
  • Partner with associations in targeted communities, demographic segments, subsectors, etc.
  • Be part of management team involved in events such as Marketplace, the Governor’s Conference on Diverse Business Development and Small Business Academy.
  • Identify ways to align regional economic development strategies in concert with BCD Regional Directors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration or related field or comparable education/experience/training.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in economic development or related field required.
  • Management experience preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of local, state, and federal business development resources for minority, woman, veteran, disabled veterans, and LGBT owned businesses.

Skills and Talents:

  • Ability to source and execute business deals.
  • High energy, enthusiastic, quick to response to requests and opportunities.
  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Strong skills in negotiation and organizational leadership are essential.
  • PC applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database management and Windows software.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner and influence at all levels in the business and to be viewed as a credible, valuable source of information and integral part of management team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to deal effectively with senior executives as well as diverse groups of people internal and external to the organization.

Other Requirements:

  • State-wide travel will occur on a frequent basis, more than 30% of the time. Travel is anticipated to include day and overnight travel.
  • This position is eligible for reimbursement according to the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. This position requires the employee to provide a mobile device that allows for phone, text, and email access.
  • Based on the responsibilities of this position, this position may need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
