Full description of the position

Position Summary:

The Director of Sales will report to the President, IBU and work closely with all members of the commercial team as well as cross functionally within the business unit. The Sales Director will support and execute the commercial strategy and sales growth initiatives.

How you will make an impact:

  • In partnership with the Industrial Leadership Team (ILT), analyze, define, and develop strategies and a sales growth plan to align with the Company’s annual and long-term sales goals within a specific division and/or geographic market.
  • Providing active leadership, performance coaching and effective goal setting strategies to Outside Sales teams to ensure revenue and profitability goals are met or exceeded on an annual basis.
  • Create and drive sales processes utilizing CRM to identify and track all new and current customer opportunities, sales activity, and success rates. Establish key scorecards and reporting metrics to provide accountability metrics for each sales team member and coach team members as needed.
  • In coordination with ILT, developing a comprehensive sales training program to ensure all current and future sales team members can confidently sell all products to achieve maximum sales growth within each territory.
  • Creating strong partnerships with strategic suppliers to enhance training and development opportunities for the sales team.
  • Providing detailed and accurate sales forecasting based on current and future market conditions.
  • Driving a sales culture of engagement, empowerment and education that creates success and celebrates achievements at the individual, team, and business unit levels.
  • In partnership with the ILT and Human Resources define a compensation structure to incentivize sales teams to drive sales growth and increase profitability aligning with the short and long-term sales strategies.
  • Providing consistent communication and coaching sessions with all members of sales teams as it pertains to sales goals, reviewing new markets and compensation plans.
  • Proactively works with the corporate Marketing Team to capitalize on market conditions, competitive influences, customer needs and messaging strategies.
  • Mentors commercial team to overcome customer buying obstacles, deploying effective sales techniques and effective territory and time management skills.
  • Providing timely and relevant information on customers feedback, competitors changes and market conditions to the corporate Marketing team to capitalize on shifts in the marketplace to enhance the Company’s competitive advantage.
  • Coaching commercial team to overcome customer buying obstacles, deploy effective sales techniques and effectively manage territory and time-management skills.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Successful Past Achievements Include:

  • Proven success increasing profitably by cultivating new sales markets in addition to growing existing customers.
  • Utilized CRM systems to effectively manage and report key sales team metrics.
  • Experienced in distribution sales and collaboration with channel partners.
  • Successfully selected, developed, and led high-performance sales team(s).
  • Strong partnership with marketing and leadership teams to provide customer feedback.
  • Established and leveraged strategic customer relationships.
  • Proven leadership aligning sales behaviors with performance expectations to meet sales goals.
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
  • A minimum of 10 years sales leadership experience
  • Experience hiring and developing high performance teams.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Possess excellent communication skills in written, verbal and presentation formats.
  • Ability to establish good organizational and multitasking skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Personal characteristics include: enthusiastic, aggressive, self-starter with a passion to lead others.
  • Travel will be 70% including up to 25% overnight travel as needed. Travel may include, but is not limited to Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.
