Applications Engineer 1 in Ann Arbor, MI
Position Summary:
The Applications Engineer 1 is primarily responsible for providing application software and commissioning support of capital projects. This includes properly implementing A&D products and staying within the scope and budget of his/her assigned projects.
The Applications Engineer 1 is secondarily responsible for providing various technical assistance in support of Sales, Marketing, Product Engineering, Training, and
Project Engineering.
Essential Duties:
Primary duties include:
- Application development of simple projects for battery, chassis, engine, and other powertrain related testing using company software tools
- Demonstrate the ability to lead small projects with direction from team leader
- Partition project tasks into manageable elements and accurately estimate schedule and budget for each with direction from team leader
- Demonstrate applied knowledge of technical concepts, practices, procedures and data acquisition and control hardware
- Demonstrate innovation and creativity in resolving technical issues
- Commission test stands/cells of simple projects, by performing tasks:
- Setup, configure, and troubleshoot instrumentation such as, well as other test cell systems and the interfaces to those systems
- Implement and tune control loops
- Monitor and control relevant safety circuits
- Provide commissioning documentation of final configuration
- Obtain customer sign-off
- Act as liaison and company representative with customers during a project
- Perform follow-up technical support on specific applications
- Provide hands on operations training to customers at their site
- Support the Project Manager with regular progress updates
Secondary duties include:
- Provide technical assistance to other departments:
- Provide technical support to the sales process by presenting demonstrations of company products to customers
- Make presentations at company trade shows
- Provide support and expertise in the concepting of new products and features
- Provide testing and evaluation expertise for testing of new products and features
- Support Marketing in producing product specifications
- Assist or fill in as Help Desk Coordinator
Job Requirements:
- Requires BS degree in engineering or AAS degree in a technical field plus a minimum of 5-year relevant technical experience
- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical processes
- Basic knowledge of PC operation, structure, MS Windows, and computer networking
- Travel to customer locations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
