Associate Director of Development (Seattle, WA)

Full Time (40-hours per week)

Yearlong Position (12-month schedule)

The Bush School, a K-12 progressive, independent school located in Seattle, WA, is in search of an individual to join our Development Department as an Associate Director of Development. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the schools mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. The Associate Director of Development will advance the mission of The Bush School by planning, organizing, and implementing strategies to increase the level of personal engagement and financial commitment of current and former Bush families, alumni, and friends. Particular emphasis will be given to securing philanthropic and volunteer support for the schools Annual Fund.

The Associate Director of Development reports to the Assistant Head of School for Advancement and supervises the Annual Giving Manager and works closely with all other members of the Development and Communication teams. This position will play a key role in leading the development function of the school in a relationship-based and major gift framework to support the needs of the school. At the core of this philosophy is an ongoing effort to build a strong and supportive culture of gratitude and philanthropy.

While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:

Manage operations of the capital campaign
Oversee the annual giving program with a relationship-based perspective lens
Work a portfolio of annual giving prospects and strategically manage relationships through face to face and meaningful communication
Develop and cultivate the Annual Fund as measured by total dollars, percentage of participation in key constituent groups, consistency of giving, and average gift size
Oversee the development of messages and other communications to solicit gifts from all constituents; these include digital, electronic, and direct mail solicitations
Identify donors who have potential to make leadership gifts and coordinate with the Assistant Head of School for Advancement on solicitation strategy and schedule
Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School for Advancement to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of reports; analyze annual giving results and reports
Provide regular reports on results and trends to the Assistant Head of School for Advancement
Serve as a staff liaison and support to the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees

Donor Relations and Stewardship duties include:
Follow up with donors in a professional and timely manner
Manage, update, and implement the stewardship plan
Oversee the preparation and production of Gratitude (annual report of giving)
Promote a culture of philanthropy and gratitude; raise awareness and understanding of philanthropy among all constituencies
Be an active and visible participant in the life of The Bush School
Perform other duties, as assigned

Experience and Professional Competencies:
Bachelors degree is required
Experience with capital campaigns is required, with three or more years preferred
Experience with fundraising leadership is required, with two or more years preferred
Knowledge of fundraising principles, methods, standards, and ethics is required
Successful experience leading annual giving programs is preferred
Experience with data segmentations and analysis; understanding of fundraising software (preferably Raisers Edge) and gift processing; donor relations; and strategic fundraising is required
Project management experience is required
Customer service orientation is required

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written form
Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite programs, databases and web-based software

Additional Requirements:
Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
Meet the schools standards when completing two separate background screenings

Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
Annual Salary Range: $93,000 to $103,000 per year
