Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Business Development Director 1 to support our Global Mission Readiness and Operations (GMRO) Business Unit based in McLlean, VA. The selected candidate can be located on-site with our teams in McLean, Virginia; Ogden, Utah; or Sierra Vista, Arizona. Joining the team virtually as a full-time teleworker will also be considered.
In this role, the selected candidate works with the division strategy and business development team establishing and achieving business unit level awards objectives. This role will be responsible for developing and providing oversight of business unit strategy, customer requirements, new business opportunity identification and qualification, as well as capture and proposal efforts to secure new business and meet / exceed these objectives annually. This requires close collaboration with all organizational leadership, technology, business management, contracts, global supply chain, human resources, and other functional organizations in order to successfully execute the business acquisition process and deliver superior results.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring, and training a team of business development professionals accountable to and measured against metrics that include but are not limited to: opportunity identification, opportunity assessment and maturation, capture advancement, win rate, supporting financial goals and shaping market strategies
- Demonstrating sound business judgment, innovation in approaching business challenges and the ability to translate a strategic plan into operating results
- Establishing business unit level strategy aligned with division strategic objectives and derived from operating unit level value propositions
- Creation and execution of customer engagement plans ranging from the program levels through senior leadership levels of both Northrop Grumman and customer organizations to gain complete understanding of customer needs and associated budgeting and acquisition processes
- Ownership of business unit pipeline of growth opportunities ensuring sufficiency to achieve annual and long range objectives
- Supporting new business opportunities with a strong business case to meet or exceed financial objectives
- Developing/managing internal budgets required to execute new business growth activities
- Ensuring compliance with the Business Acquisition Process, timeliness and quality of gated decision reviews, oversight of other internal governance requirements and submittal of all types of responses to customer’s requests related to new business pursuits
- Leading the development of win strategies/value propositions for new opportunities and campaigns including: clearly defined discriminating and differentiated value propositions, assessment of the competition, our execution concept of operations, position to win and submittal of compliant and compelling proposals resulting in a superior win rate
- Supporting program teams in the transition of proposal awards to successful program execution
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline with a minimum of 15 years of combined government and/or industry experience with relevant acquisition, strategy, business development and/or capture background
- Master’s degree in business or related discipline with a minimum of 13 years of combined government and/or industry experience with relevant acquisition, strategy, business development and/or capture background
- Track record of large-scale pipeline development and execution along with capture of large/significant pursuits
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 50% of the time)
- Customer intimacy with relevant customers communities across USAF, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and other U.S. government organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA degree
- Profit & Loss experience
- Program Management experience
- International business development and capture experience
- Knowledge of the Northrop Grumman Business Acquisition Process
- Proven ability to work across organizational structures in a Tier 1 aerospace and defense company
- Airframe depot level maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade experience
- Weapon system avionics component and software sustainment experience
- U.S. DoD Public / Private Partnership experience
This position reports to McLean, VA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 3 locations listed above.
