Full description of the position

The Product Development Manager works collaboratively with Sales, Creative, Engineering, and Project Management professionals to fully develop creative ideation concepts into specifications that reflect the aesthetic, functional, and manufacturing requirements of a retail/brand project or program.

The PDM is involved early in the process, working with Sales to understand client needs and support them in bringing the product or program to life in a very dynamic, fast paced environment.

The primary focus is to manage the development cycle. This starts with clearly articulating design intent to mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, software engineering, prototype, production, and quality teams. And working collectively to an ideal balance of beauty, cost, and manufacturability.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• They are responsible for making product decisions aligned to the business direction from the Sales Executive and often is the lead resource for the sales team when deep product expertise is required.
• Drive development resources to create profitable products that align with company standards
• Owns the product development process activities and plans, from the conceptual phases through a final prototype approval with attention to retail readiness and mass production ability
• Responsible for preparing and clearly communicating conceptual solutions, deliverables, expectations, and scope to the product development teams based on provided criteria.
• Oversee prototype activity (cost, number of prototypes, where, when, tracking) Advancing concept design based on internal or client reviews and feedback.
• Review of and sign-off of complete drawing pack of finished good items. Verifying retail readiness of all products being developed.
• Verify first article build for mass production.
• Oversee product quality and control cost and signed-off of cost build of material (BOM)

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in product development management
• Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
• Strong Retail Display or consumer electronics background preferred
• Extensive knowledge of one or more of the following materials and processes related to mass production: Sheet metal, wire, plastic (including injection molding), print processes, electronics, and software
• Strong ability to bring an innovative approach & critical thinking to product design with a forward-thinking approach to materials, techniques, and know-how
• Software proficiency in Solidworks, PDM, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft office
• Ability to manage cross-functional development effort and to manage multiple projects concurrently
• Strong organizational skills including, but not limited to, task prioritization and effective time management
• Flexible work hours to accommodate global team structure and ability to work in tight deadline driven environment
• Asia manufacturing experience is a plus
• ~25% travel required
