This role is part of the Amcor Rigid Packaging North American Shared Services group and reports to the Director of Accounting & Financial Reporting. This role will function as the Manager of the Sales and General Accounting team and will lead the general, SG&A, and Sales accounting functions. Currently, the team is comprised of (5) direct reports.
In addition, this role is responsible for managing relationships with internal staff and senior management from multiple functional areas throughout the Rigid Packaging Business Group. Key internal contacts include Business Unit FP&A, commercial finance, and sales functions. This position is also responsible for managing relationships with external consultants including insurance brokers, financial auditors, and tax consultants.
General Accounting Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead a professional accounting staff which includes creating team goals based on cross-functional feedback, monitoring progress of assigned tasks, providing real-time feedback, coaching and development, and performance evaluations
- Proactive identification of process improvement opportunities in existing business practices and lead the development and implementation of initiatives to improve processes and procedures
- Manage Global and North American BU SG&A accounting function including financial variance bridging and related analysis, forecasting and budgeting, and supporting internal customer needs / requirements
- Oversee all restructuring accounting requirements including full financial forecasting and budgeting
- Various other balance sheet and cash flow forecasting requirements for numerous entities / accounts
- Partner with internal / external resources to coordinate all tax return and tax provision activity for the North American legal entities and related joint ventures
- Manage business insurance for worker’s comp, auto and property including program renewals, RFQ’s and related administration
- Oversee accounting for employee benefit programs including various incentives programs
- Oversee numerous intercompany allocations and related billings
- Administer Blackline accounting reconciliation and task management software for NA
- Own the month-end accounting close cycle and general ledger administration (control opening and closing of SAP ECC calendar, related SAP functions / jobs, etc.)
- Review and approve proposed journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure accurate general ledger balances
- Prepare financial statements including variance analysis for joint venture partners; communicate dividend recommendations and related budget proposals
- Manage equity accounting including minority interest requirements
- Provide financial and accounting training support as subject matter experts / power users for various systems / processes (i.e. Excel, BPC, SAP, ‘Accounting 101’ for managers, etc.)
- Support internal and external audit activities, own department controls / self-assessment compliance reporting, ensure compliance with established policies and procedures of Amcor
- Responsible for grant accounting and related reporting and compliance
- Lead purchase accounting activities for any acquisitions, including ownership of audit documentation and co-development of white papers supporting fair market valuation adjustments
- Support other ad hoc activities as required / necessary
Sales Accounting Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Sales Accounting team
- Manage customer rebate accounting and coordination of rebate payments
- Manage customer paid tooling accounting including project oversight and monthly updates
- Oversee sales invoicing including oversight including customer portals
- Execute and manage internal controls over invoicing, sales price changes, etc.
- Manage royalty / signing bonus accounting, including monthly JE's and reconciliations
- Prepare, review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations, ensure month end reporting activities are performed timely and accurately.
- Process freight, debit/credit memo transactions (i.e. customer returns/claims, and scrap / regrind shipments)
- Manage check requests and intercompany transfers
- Own various month-end close responsibilities
Reporting Relationships
- Role currently has five (5) direct reports
- Position reports directly to ARP Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Supports the following internal customers / other colleagues:
- Business Unit FP&A / Operations (Vice President, Directors, Managers, Plant Controllers)
- Commercial and Commercial finance functions (all levels)
- Shared Services Accounting and IT (all levels)
- Amcor Ltd Group functions (Finance and Risk / Insurance)
Required Competencies

- Strong ERP and financial reporting software experience: SAP / BPC experience strongly preferred

- Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of clearly articulating thoughts

- Ability to work with detailed information while also understanding the “big picture”
- Occasional travel
Education & Experience Required
- CPA or CMA designation preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 8+ years of increased responsibility in a Corporate accounting environment (experience in a large, complex and multi-location public company manufacturing organization strongly preferred)
- Strong systems aptitude with preference given to candidates with SAP ERP / Business Planning & Consolidation (BPC) application experience
- Strong understanding of financial statements and relationships between balance sheet, income and cash flow statements; demonstrated experience developing / modeling financial statements
- Clearly understands accounting concepts, transactional flow (t-accounts) and financial terminology
