Full description of the position
The Director of Development works in partnership with the Vice President of Development, Major Gifts Director, and program staff to oversee all aspects of how the Home solicits, cultivates, and stewards restricted and unrestricted gifts.Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position supervises the Database Manager and Development Coordinator.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Identify and manage a portfolio of mid-level donors to cultivate and solicit for gifts.
- Develop and implement comprehensive stewardship plans with a focus on low and mid-level donors.
- Identify and steward a pipeline of individual donors through creative cultivation strategies for larger giving potential.
- Work with Major Giving Director to move donors to higher levels of giving (moves management).
- Generate, research, and maintain donor profiles for giving opportunities in NXT and Wealth Engine.
- Develop and oversee strategies to identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward qualified prospects and current donors for gifts in partnership with the VP of Development and Major Gifts Director.
- Provide support and oversight to the Planned Giving, Annual Fund, and Team Member Gift Committees created to support a $50M four-year campaign.
- Maintain and steward relationships with Heroes for the Home and Hearts for the Home golf scramble event sponsors for future event opportunities/attendance.
- Plan and execute Heroes for the Home and Hearts for the Home golf scramble events.
- Plan and execute donor and prospect-related events including but not limited to: Board/Associate Board Reception, Holiday Reception, cultivation events, and other personalized donor events.
- Oversee the production of all annual direct mail and online campaigns, including both spring and holiday appeals, working in partnership with the Vice President of Public Relations and Communications Manager.
- Assist in reviewing planned giving policies and procedures annually.
- Serve on various committees as directed by the VP of Development.
- Supervise and mentor both the Database Manager and Development Coordinator, including fostering their professional development and annual performance evaluations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must possess excellent organizational, communication, supervisory, and time-management skills.
- Must be detailed-oriented and can manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Must possess the ability to problem-solve to solution and make decisions quickly within the scope of the position.

- Must have a minimum of a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must have, as a minimum, 5-7 years of experience in fundraising activities.
- Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the fundraising and planned giving programs.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language.
- This position is not as physically demanding as it is psychologically demanding. There is a high level of stress associated with this position and its many responsibilities.
