D & G Machine Products, Inc., a Certified ISO 9001 & AS9100D Company with a Main Plant located in Westbrook and a Fabrication Plant located in Gorham, Maine, has been offering full-service Precision Machining, Fabrication, Painted and Assembled Machine Products for more than 50 Years.

D&G Machine supply’s several Nationwide Industries that include: Aerospace, Computer Chip Production, Defense Contracts, Medical, Power Generation, and Maine’s Paper Industry.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Outside Sales Representative develops relationships with potential and current customers to identify their needs and provides a consultative partnership. The Outside Sales Representative achieves maximum sales profitability, growth, and account penetration within an assigned territory and/or market segment by effectively selling the company’s services and negotiating sales contracts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Promotes/sells/secures orders from existing and prospective customers through a relationship-based approach.
  • Develops and identifies opportunities to grow business with existing and new market segments.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains business relationships with current and prospective customers in the assigned territory/market segment to generate new business opportunities for the organization’s services.
  • Makes telephone calls, sets up in-person visits, provides facility tours and showcases company’s capabilities through presentations to existing and prospective customers.
  • Develops clear and effective written proposals/quotations for current and prospective customers.
  • Ensures that customers needs are identified and met in line with agreed service standards.
  • Operates as the point of contact for assigned accounts. Expedites the resolution of customer problems and complaints.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction through ongoing communication and relationship management; resolves any issues that may arise post-sale.
  • Attends and contributes to weekly customer visits, project reviews and conference calls.
  • Coordinates sales effort with marketing, sales management, accounting, logistics and technical service groups.
  • Maintains detailed reports of sales activities including calls, orders, sales, lost business, and any customer or vendor relationship problems.
  • Provides periodic territory sales forecasts.
  • Supplies management with oral and written reports on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities, and potential for new services.
  • Plans and organizes personal sales strategy by maximizing the Return on Time Investment for the territory/market segment.
  • Attend industry trade shows and conventions to identify potential sales leads and make meaningful contacts.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturing applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising, and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with manufacturing, marketing and technical service areas and industries to identify new opportunities for potential sales.
  • Recommends marketing strategies to target a specific region or demographic.
  • Attend sales seminars, sales meetings or educational activities to stay up to date on the latest developments, trends, and regulations in the marketplace.

Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • 2- or 4-year degree in a technical field or manufacturing trade.
  • 3 – 5 years of sales, sales support, account, or project management experience
  • Knowledge and experience with precision made components, fabrication and assemblies preferred.
  • Long distance and occasional overnight travel required.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public.
  • Must have demonstrated success in making sound decisions which could have a significant impact on the organization’s credibility, operations, and services.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, pro rata, percentages, and volume and to apply basic accounting concepts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quotas and goals.
  • Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen and background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT (change as appropriate)

This job operates in the manufacturing office environment at the Main Plant located in Westbrook, Maine but travels to customer/potential customer sites constantly. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasionally, this role uses standard production equipment such as power tools and other mechanic hand tools. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

The employee frequently positions self to reach for objects, maintain and operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of computer keyboard, move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee frequently travels long distances to meet with customers/potential customers and attend events, both in and out of the State of Maine. The employee frequently communicates with employees/customers/potential customers/vendors and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
