ABOUT THE POSITION
The Sales Applications Designer will be responsible for assisting and supporting sales staff on hot and warm mix asphalt equipment. The employee will be interpreting customer needs, and defining which equipment should be quoted. Also they will be defining costs for equipment that is outside the realm of the existing price book.

Key Deliverables

• Review customers’ technical needs to recommend specific products and assist in product costing to aide in the quoting process.
• Define and quote ETO (Engineered to Order) components.
• Provide accurate product descriptions for price book and update quoting software accordingly.
• Assist in product costing to ensure prices are accurate in price book.
• Liaison with multiple engineering departments collaborating with general layouts and expediting deliverables to customers.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

• Manage several projects at once from beginning to final commissioning of equipment.
• Create preliminary designs, when required, using AutoCAD or other drafting software.
• Attend work order meetings. Be able to understand what was sold; how the system (equipment) works and what the customer expects.
• Assist in preparing and delivering equipment quotations / proposals to meet customer specifications with product availability, pricing, and order status.
• Set project goals and deadlines and discern what it takes to complete on schedule.
• Read and understand Mechanical Drawings and PID drawings and the relationship between the two.
• Work with engineers from various departments to resolve any problems during and after implementation.
• Communicate effectively to provide technical mechanical support to internal and external Astec customers including but not limited to: manufacturing, service department, parts department, and with end customers.
• Estimate cost and consult with sales force on technical matters for solution integration.
• Perform costing of Company fabricated and acquired equipment.
• Update price lists.
• Provide customers and sales team with product information.

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with focus in Drafting or Mechanical Technology preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience preferred.
• Advanced level of expertise in mechanical engineering principles
• Knowledge of and experience with any of the following would be considered a plus: heat transfer, fluid flow, structural design, pumps, Asphalt/Emulsion/Polymer processes and systems.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and as a team.
• Problem solving skills and detail oriented.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCad, and Autodesk Inventor
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Travel Requirements: up to 20% of travel within United States
