What You’ll Be Doing as Director of Sales
Clean Power Research seeks a seasoned business leader with extensive sales experience to lead a team comprised of several direct reports. Sales at Clean Power Research involves licensing our cloud-based, enterprise SaaS solutions and related support and implementation packages. This role will focus primarily on opportunities at utilities and energy agencies. . Qualified candidates will have both sales and technical savvy as they direct and staff the team, structure motivational compensation, and contribute to sales proposals, pricing and contract development. As a senior leader in the company, the Director of Sales will be a resource to other internal teams, especially Business Development, Customer Success and Product Management, on competitive threats, industry trends and identifying potential partners.
The Sales Director should be interested and knowledgeable across multiple areas across renewables, electric utilities, the regulatory environment and international business. The role has a seat at the table as the company develops or tweaks business models and endeavors to understand enterprise IT trends and sensitivities.
The position reports to the VP of Sales & Business Development.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage, motivate and nurture the sales and account management teams and related staff
- Design compensation models that help the company hit revenue and growth targets while maintaining great relationships with customers. Grow the team appropriately through recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, mentoring, and development
- Foster productive, long-term relationships with customers, helping to assign executive and other “sponsors” internally to complement account management
- Develop, execute and tune the company’s sales strategies across all business lines in conjunction with the executive team and CEO
- Be a resource for complex customer engagements, including software and professional services, and drive deals to closure as a multi-product expert
- Ensure full utilization of company CRM tools and direct the enhancement of sales tools and processes Work with marketing and product management to identify collateral that should be developed and review marketing strategies to feed the sales pipeline
- Develop deep insights into customer needs and direction, socialize learnings and customer feedback to executive leadership, especially regarding feature gaps, pricing, licensing, bundling and partnerships
- Travel occasionally to meet with customers, present at events and conferences and meet with press and analysts
Who You Are
- 10+ years in SaaS sales including a track record of success in director-level positions
- Additional 5+ years energy/utilities industry experience
- Experience with complex enterprise contracts covering software licensing, support, and professional services
- Energy, renewable, solar and clean tech passion and experience required
- BA/BS required, technical or scientific degree strongly preferred; MBA a plus
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Comfortable using spreadsheets and CRM tools to develop and model compensation (including commissions), adoption, etc.
- Superior organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- International sales experience a plus
Pay Range & Benefits
- Base Salary Range: $135,000 to $195,000 annual depending on experience. In addition to the base salary, this position includes a Performance-Based Commission plan.
