DIRECTOR OF

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS) located in San Jose, CA is looking for a multifaceted professional to

spearhead efforts to build the capacity and power of partner organizations dedicated to advancing racial justice in

Silicon Valley. The position provides executive leadership support to the Race Equity Action Leadership (REAL)

Coalition and direct support for the capacity building efforts of REAL members in power building and community

development. REAL is a network of leaders from a broad spectrum of community-based organizations jointly

facilitated by SHCS and the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits. Emerging in the wake of the national uprising in

support of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, the group has worked 1) to build relationships between

leaders, 2) to leverage their positional status, talents, and assets to advance movement goals, and 3) to center the

voice and power of the constituents they serve, teach, and organize. The position supports REAL organizational

development, including member development, operational planning, fund development and donor stewardship

efforts. The Director plays a leadership role in organizing campaigns and communications, with focus on narrative

shift activities. The person in this position must be highly organized and possess excellent oral and written

communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly, collaboratively, and creatively. The ideal candidate has

executive leadership experience in a nonprofit community organizing, community development, human services,

or public health setting. They must be equally committed to Sacred Heart’s vision of a community united to

ensure every child and adult is free from poverty, an approach of driving policy change through transformational

leadership development, and developing campaigns through an anti-racism and anti-oppression worldview. For 58

years, SHCS has been one of the leading institutions fighting poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that

combines addressing the consequences of poverty through impactful programs while building power with people

to push for systemic change.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Strategic Partnerships leads efforts to strengthen the capacity of partner organizations to build

power to advance racial justice in our region. The Director coordinates the SHCS team and supports REAL

Coalition member leadership to guide operational planning of activities of the REAL Coalition, including direct

implementation support for meetings, trainings, events, and special projects. The position spearheads partner

outreach and recruitment, relationship building, and communications. The Director leads fund development

efforts, including funder cultivation, reporting, and donor stewardship for the REAL Coalition. The role leads

Coalition communication efforts to promote narrative shifts that advance anti-racist policy campaigns and

capacity building efforts. The Director supports campaign development through policy research, messaging,

media relations, and engagement of direct action committees. The position coordinates and directly supports

implementation of training, professional development, and capacity building activities for partner organizations in

grassroots power building and community development.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Organization (25-30%)




Spearheads the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic partnership strategy to

engage and develop the ecosystem of community-based organizations and allies working collectively to

challenge white supremacy culture both internally and through collective public policy campaigns.

Leads the development of operating plans for strategic partnerships and the REAL coalition, including

developing, tracking, and reporting of impact metrics with an emphasis on base building and racial

equity.

Ensures project management of REAL coalition activities, including planning, execution, and logistical

support for REAL coalition meetings, events, retreats, and special projects. Oversees and directly supports

structure, facilitation, presentations, training, and feedback, as necessary.






Oversees the development and continuous improvement of REAL structures, policies and procedures,

including stakeholder input.

Ensures proper administrative support for the work of the coalition, including documentation and

reporting of activities, structures for memoranda of understanding, honoraria and subgrants, and partner

accountability.


Leads budget development, oversight, and reporting.

Recruitment/Engagement (10-15%)


Spearheads ongoing partner recruitment activities of senior management team and Power and

Organizing pa team, including direct outreach, communications, and 1:1s with prospective allies.

Leads regular member cultivation planning, execution, and tracking, including relationship building

activities, regular 1:1s, and communications with REAL members, in partnership with the Executive

Director, Policy Director, Training Director and Analyst.


Fund Development (10-15%)


Leads fund development efforts for strategic partnership and REAL Coalition efforts, including identifying

and cultivating potential funders, and leading donor stewardship efforts working with the Executive

Director and SHCS fund development team.

Prepares grant proposals, and ensures data tracking and dissemination of impact reports to funders and

stakeholders.


Communications & Policy (20-25%)







Leads communications strategy development and implementation, with a focus on narrative shift to

center racial justice in policy making.

Spearheads external communications efforts, including regular and timely communications with partners,

policymakers, media, funders, and allies.

Oversees the development of key messages, talking points, policy briefs, correspondence, and

participatory action research.

Supports advocacy strategy development by identifying policy opportunities and facilitating issue

campaign planning and evaluation with stakeholders.

Facilitates the development, maintenance, and implementation of web-based advocacy, social media,

and communication tools.

Represents the REAL coalition and supports member and constituent turnout at public hearings,

delegations to policy makers, and external collaborations, as necessary.

Capacity Building (10-15%)




Facilitates the development and execution of leadership development, racial equity, and community

development training activities for partners.

Oversees the subgrantee selection and administration processes. Ensures administrative and funding

systems are in place to support partners and reporting to funders.

Leads the evaluation and continuous improvement of training and capacity building programs, including

regular assessment of membership needs, assets, and goals.

SHCS Leadership (5-10%)





Supports the planning and implementation of SHCS programs, events, training, and outreach efforts.

Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team, and serves as on site manager as needed.

Attends Board of Directors, Board subcommittees, and Advisory Committees as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.




POSITION REQUIREMENTS


Strong commitment to our vision of uniting community to ensure every child and adult is free from

poverty;


5-7 years of management experience in community organizing, community development, public affairs,

human services, public health, or equivalent experience;

2-3 years of policy advocacy, coalition building, or strategic communications experience.

Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills;

Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to multi-task, and provide quick responses;

Four-year degree or equivalent experience;

Proficiency with CRM databases (such as Salesforce), web based-communications, Google Workspace,

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;









The position also requires computer use up to 6-8 hours per day;

Must be insurable under the SHCS driving insurance requirements;

Must successfully pass a DMV and background check.

Preferred


Bilingual in Spanish/English or Vietnamese/English desired.


3-5 years of executive/senior leadership experience in community organizing, community development,

public affairs, human services, or public health;



Direct experience working with low-income populations.

Graphic design software proficiency;

Position is exempt, full-time and reports to the Executive Director.

Compensation

The salary is commensurate with experience. Salary range is $115,000-$125,000 per year.
