UHealth Strategy Office is seeking an Executive Director, Strategy & Business Development. The Business Development Function: Set-up and direct the business development function across the UM enterprise. Business Strategy Development: Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with UM’s/UHealth’s/MSOM’s goals and objectives. Identify market trends, competitive landscape, and potential growth areas to drive business expansion. Market Analysis and Opportunity Identification: Conduct extensive market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities and target markets. Evaluate the feasibility and profitability of potential partnerships, acquisitions, and collaborations. Partnership Development: Build and nurture strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, insurers, pharmaceutical companies, technology vendors, and other industry leaders. Collaborate with these partners to develop innovative solutions, enhance service offerings, and drive revenue growth. Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations and contract discussions with potential partners, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for UM/UHealth/MSOM. Collaborate with the legal and finance teams to ensure compliance and mitigate risks associated with business agreements. Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assure business development strategies are well-aligned with strategic priorities. Competitive Analysis: Monitor competitors' activities, market trends, and industry regulations. Identify areas of competitive advantage and recommend strategies to differentiate and position UM/UHealth/MSOM effectively. Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data, market trends, and business metrics to evaluate the success of business development initiatives. Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations for future growth. Team Leadership: Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to a team of business development professionals. Foster a collaborative and high-performing culture, ensuring the team's alignment with organizational goals. Demonstrate high emotional intelligence with deftness in navigating complex organizations with multiple stake holders; contribute to team’s work and culture, supporting colleagues and playing a vocal part in team meetings Review work product and provide feedback/coaching. Manage subordinate staff performance of their jobs and multiple work streams/projects efficiently. Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Contributes to team’s work and culture, supports colleagues, builds collective capabilities of Strategy and Transformation Office, and plays a vocal part in team meetings. All other responsibilities as assigned.
Department Specific Functions
Oversees and manages the Business Development department and staff, ensuring quality outcomes. Manages business development playbook, editing and updates Understands the local/regional market geography and demographics; knowledgeable regarding competitors and local market trends Searches for important data sources and converts data to meaningful information Develops / oversees professional and succinct financial projections Works effectively across organization lines with finance leadership and staff Develops and ensures adherence to department’s annual budget in accordance with University guidelines and policies. Prepares analyses of budget allocation and reviews the current level of expenditures versus those planned to determine the year-end status of the budget. Reviews and approves financial transactions. Monitors contractual obligations and ensures consistency with departmental budget, goals, and programmatic initiatives. Advances business development plans and makes recommendations to senior management on how to best execute. Evaluates existing internal controls and approval processes, and makes recommendations on how to improve fiscal integrity and minimize conflicts.
Recruits, trains and develops talent, and prepares performance reports for staff

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; Master’s preferred
Experience:
- Significant experience (8+ years) in business development, strategic partnerships, or related roles within healthcare or higher education. Proven track record of successfully driving business growth and managing complex negotiations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data
- Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office)
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
