Today, Mid-Continent is an international sales organization marketing metallurgical coke, anthracite coal, and petroleum coke, specializing in the sale of small-size coke.

Mid-Continent Coal and Coke Company has 15 coke screening facilities and five carbon drying operations in North America. We have a network capable of shipping by truck, rail, barge, or vessel in quantities of 25 tons to 65,000 tons.

Job Description: Operations Safety/Environmental Manager

Safety:

Job brief

We are looking for a reliable, qualified Operations Safety/Environmental Manager. This person must possess the ability to maintain and establish safety and environmental policies that create a safe and environmentally friendly workplace that complies with all local, state and federal laws.

The Operations Safety/Environmental Manager must have excellent attention to detail while having the ability to understand our operation and bring safety and the operation together to achieve common goals. This person will conduct safer operating process improvement initiatives and identify hazards before they become hazards by creating and implementing Job Safety Analysis’s, Standard Work Instructions, and Energy Lockout Programs. One of the most important attributes that we are searching for in this manager, is this person will have the ability to support the operations team with a hands-on approach to existing and new plant processes, managing new plant construction from a safety standpoint and having knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local laws of air and storm water permitting. This person must have the ability to administer continuous improvement and abide by all legal guidelines of environmental policies.

The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health, safetyand environmental programs.

Responsibilities

Safety:

· Develop company health and safety policies and procedures.

· Be able to suggest solutions, improvements, and guidelines that do not inhibit the operation, but enhances the operation.

· Execute health and safety training

· Manage company OSHA compliance programs.

· Evaluate Health and Safety programs, practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk

· Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention

· Coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices.

· Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures

· Develop company Job Safety Analysis programs, Standard Work Instructions, and Energy lockout programs.

· Train and support personnel on safety projects and resources.

· Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics

· Coordinate and engage in Health and Safety Team.

· Manage information, records, and resources for Safety Management Program.

· Research regulatory requirements, industry standards and health and safety best practices.

· Handle record confidentiality and follow policy on information release.

· Manage company ISNetworld program

Environmental:

· Stay updated with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

· Review and recommend improvements to existing environmental programs.

· Generate environmental reports as requested by regulatory agencies.

· Provide guidance and direction to management for ensuring environmental compliance.

· Prepare permit applications and agreements as needed by regulatory agencies.

· Obtain, maintain, modify, and renew environmental permits and licenses.

· Conduct regular environmental inspections and propose corrective actions.

· Oversee waste disposal and pollution control programs and recycling procedures

· Ensure that industrial operations follow local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

· Educate industrial workers on environmental programs and policies.

· Work with team to develop effective environmental strategies.

· Provide job trainings and assistance to team members when needed.

· Stay updated with environmental trends and legislations.

Requirements

  • Ability to create a safety program that improves the operation.
  • Experience in Operations Management is preferred.
  • Ability to travel multiple days per week to company sites (60%)
  • Deep understanding of health and safety guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of air and water permitting
  • Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies
  • Knowledge on job training and procedures (train the trainer)
  • Knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Experience asmanager preferred
  • BS/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred
  • CSP Certified Safety Professional a plus
  • Certified to teach OSHA 10 a plus

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
